Is there any news on backward compatibility on the PS3S?

The chief says in the conference video that it is the same as current PS3 models, just smaller. So, I doubt it is backward compatible. |

Rumours have it that there's no Linux support and no PS2 compat. Other than that, the power savings sound good.

Power savings DO look good...I'm concerned about the heat! Price drop is called for, over due, after all they quietly removed quite a bit of functionality last year in terms of USB plugs, Memory card connections and more..I found out when I had to RMA my deluxe unit with backward compatibility with PS2 and got back a rather stripped down exchange model without!! Sony isn't JUST lowering the price, but the functionality as well, even if you paid for it, you don't get back in RMA deals

With respect to the new console. The original Playstation 3 was like the Enterprise-E. This new one is like Red Dwarf. (was the most rubbish spaceship I could think of for comparison purposes)
