Online RPG - Drakensang

I know Drakensang has been around for a while, but I finally checked it out.
I've become a huge Action Role Playing Game guru and was looking for something online.
Gotta say, I'm very impressed with the graphics, performance and all the character elements.

has anyone tried Drakensang Online yet?
I've leveled up to 29 and have play at least an hour a day. Pretty stinking fun RPG. I had no idea an online game cold play so seamlessly with beautifull graphics and cooperative game play.

Will it run on Mint?

not sure... I tried running it in Fedora 16 and it DID run, but the mouse didn't work correctly. So I was close.
make sure you have java installed, create an account and try it.
I tried the download version (very small) and Fedora used wine to install it.
Then created a shortcut icon form me to launch the game.

uh, well, I only verified that it runs, but without the mouse working, its totally useless. I have a feeling its something to do with screen size and java.
I found a tutorial on how to install Drakensang Online, but it has 20 steps, I wasn't even going to try that

Ok, I registered and then Clicked "Play". I think I just got dumped or I'm missing something...what to do, what to do...":O}

Looking around I see that you have to spend real money to buy money in the game...

I don't have real money to spend in my life! LOL

Looks like your Java plugin needs to be installed to run Drakensang. I'm looking online for instructions. You can also try searching in the add/remove programs in Mint too.
Once Java is installed:
1. go to drakensang.com
2. click community at the bottom
3. click download on the left
4. accept license agreement
5. click download
6. double-click .exe (wine should run)
7. login and select a server

if it doesn't load at that point, Wine may need a java plugin too. I don't remember installing one in Fedora.

here is Java for Linux: Java 7
there are older versions too and windows versions for wine.
the instructions may help too, but sometimes they can be confusing due to using the terminal.

scroll down to step 1.... ignore the "workbench" stuff.

did you save and run the windows java? wine will probably install it.
Are you running a 64-bit Mint?
That could make a difference because I'm sure Drakensang is a 32-bit application and Mint will need all the 32-bit dependencies. I've never installed them, but Gizmo has posted directions how to do it in another post.

To be homest, this is looking to be rather more than I bargined for espically as I feel it's unlikely to run as it doesn't say it will...
Can we let this one Pass and hook up on the next one Boo?

sure can... I don't remember it being this difficult in Fedora. Seriously, it actually ran. I loaded the level and walked around a bit, then posted my problems on their forum.
I don't expect them to fix it, but its nice to see that it runs.
Linux never seems to be simple.
Were you able to find Java in the software manager?
That would be the easiest way... then just login to the website and click play.
The cool thing is that Java seems to be the main tool that plays Drakensang. I don't know how much it relies on your hardware drivers and distro, but if Java runs in Linux natively then these type of browser games will also be the future of Linux gaming.

Thank you Boo your very helpful! I'll give the ubuntu Tutorial a try tomorrow, I'm a bit computer out at the moment! ":O}

Yes I downloaded the RPM, but when I click on it, nobody here knows what to do with it....or,.... if it ain't auto I can't do it!

But I can follow simple well laid out instructions...when I'm not computered out.

I should probably follow that tutorial again and see where it goes in Fedora.
I tried to install Mint 13 Cinnamaron on my supercomputer last weekend and after 6 tries I gave up. There is a problem recognizing my CPU or hardware.
So I'm going to try Ubuntu this weekend and see what happens.
