Id say crap batteries, the batteries in my cordless mouse normally last about 3/4 weeks and mine is an el cheapo

it all depends on what mouse, and how much you use it, and how much time its in snooze mode. my inbuilt battery on my mx1000 lasts about 10 days, a few less under heavy use. It does have an inbuilt li-ion though which lets me know a few hours in advance that its about to konk out |

Mine has NiMH, and er, lasts at least two days... Good thing it's normally sitting on the charger when it's not in use.
