AMD and ATI are planning unified, scalable platforms using a mixture of AMD CPUs, ATI

AMD and ATI Promise Unified Development by 2008

"Torrenza" platforms and unified GPU/CPU processors

AMD announced the $5.4B USD takeover of ATI earlier today, but the new company is already making large plans for the future. Dave Orton, soon-to-be Executive Vice President of AMD's ATI Division, claimed that AMD and ATI would begin leveraging the sales of both companies by 2007. However, a slide from the AMD/ATI merger documentation has already shown some interesting development plans for 2008.

Only $5.4b? I would've thought ATi was worth more than that...

Looks like they're talking embedded systems. Interesting--to a point. Wonder if embedded will take over the world?

I reckon, that embedded systems wont be so nice... As in if theres loads of choice between price and features, and whats available in the embedded sense, then it may be 'ok'...

I like Having different hardware for specific tasks, and then installing them my self... If they price is lower adn the performance is higher comapred to the present methods then It may take over the world
