I predict they will cost "too much" dropping down to "bloody expensive" after a few months

The story reads media will be about 180.00 and the drives will be about 15,000.00...

Not quite there yet...

Ummm.....

These drives are not meant for consumers and do not compete with DVD standards. These are meant for large corperations as an archival system to replace tape drives.

Let's face it, how many consumers would need a 300GB write once media?

I don't think many IT administrators are going to jump at this with the current cost and capacity. However if they can get the storage up to 1.6Terabytes and the cost down to about 1/3 of what it is projected to be, then it will make some IT Pros very happy.

Actually the cost of the drive is not far off. High end tape drives were priced out of sight when they first came out. Plus they were slow and have a limited capacity. If the media can come down out of the sky, this would be very doable for med to high end businesses.

I have one of those in my basement . Have to admit when that comes out it will be cool but what GPU would you need? A Geforce22 series? ALso I think it will become norm for consumers in say 2016 or so when you need like 1 or 2 tb for a game.

Even sooner, I won't be surprised. Like 2009.5? "Solid State" HDD's have dropped from ~$40000 to ~$5000 for 4 GB.

You don't have to really wait on that. Grab a few stiff drinks and you will know what I'm talking about.
