Budget configuration

K, i'm considering buying a new rig.Mid class most probably (not enough gold for a high end one ) so here's the deal: i'm aiming at mid class stuff with OC potential.Still haven't decided the platform i will be running and that's the main question, from there i think i can assemble something pretty decent (read VGA, etc.).
Intel or AMD ?
Open to suggestions.

p.s. Feel free to post a whole conf. if you like, the more the merrier

Do you have a price range in mind? Total or for each component...?

And since you asked here.....I can only assume that this thing will fold for team 45...

Quick run through of best bang-buck ATM:

Intel C2D E6300
ATI X1950Pro
Abit FP-IN9 Motherboard (nForce chipset so no Crossfire unfortunately)
OCZ 2Gb DDR2 PC2-6400 with XTC Heatspreader

That's pretty much the best bang-buck combo at the moment, and it'll overclock like hell! The only thing i would look around for is the motherboard as you may be able to find a better ban-buck combo, but the one there is pretty good i've heard.

E6400 or E6600.
Couldn't be happier with my P5B motherboard.

If you're looking to spend $600 or so on a gaming rig that overclocks,
then I would suggest AMD 64 processors.
They have gone WAY down in price and you'll be spending $60-$70 for one.
Asus boards have great overclocking abilities too.

Also if you pick hardware from last year you will be saving a lot of money but they may not be as upgradable as the newer hardware....
You can save money by choosing a board with-out SLI.
I even saw a bunch of motherboards with AGP ports on newegg.com that are really cheap, but not upgradable.

If you want to be able to upgrade then plan to spend $800-$100.
And pick an Intel motherboard with LGA 775 socket and PCI-Express ports for video. Those are going to be upgradable for a few more years...and then some.
