I've never seen that happen. Yesterday I came as close as I ever have playing in PS3. I got killed in Crysis and instead of reloading it just gave me a blank screen. I shut down and told it to resume...same thing. So I reboot PS3 and start the level over...that fixed it. This has never happened before and this is as bad as it gets after thousands of hours on a half dozen preferred games.

Hmm, that sounds like a computer to me...
Memory leak, or corrupted files... just like in Windows. Reboot can fix these.
Backup your save games.
Keep me updated too because I never get to hear about the symptoms of an aging console.

Yeah, but its still an aging computer. After a year or so I refresh my computers with a brand new install.
Playstations might need the same thing after a while.

PS3 updates pretty often and I don't know that they don't reinstall when they do...?

good point... do updates removed installed applications and then installs the new one? or does it just update the code like in Windows or Linux?

Guess someone has to do some research... not me!

Sony are working on something for backward compatibility.

Possibly a compatibility layer (I have my doubts), or a cloud streaming service (sounds lame).

If they did manage to produce a compatibility layer, I think they could score considerable kudos.
