For the price point you've made, you can get a 64mb DDR Geforce2 Pro now. This would be a good compromise between price/performance. I don't think anyone can argue that this will offer more performance than any of the other cards listed. The only benefit I can see to the Radeon would be in its hardware assist of MPEG2 Playback. Even in this arena, it's only slightly better.

I consider myself a serious gamer, albeit one who also does tons of web-surfing, media work, and productivity apps. I've used a 32mb version of the Geforce2 for quite awhile and can find nothing better until you get near $200.

That was one of the first thing's I suggested, but 2D quality on the geforce 2 line was poorer than on the radeons, and 3D gaming for his purposes didn't have to be tops, and the Radeon is almost in line with the GF2 Pro in 3D anyway, so we decided the Radeon (now, just which one was the question).

I agree that for price and performance for most people the GF2 Pro would be ideal, but Kris needs better 2D.

Woa.. & I thouth this was a dead topic... that's what i get..

Thanks for the screenshots Superman... looks good.. doesn't look like ATI has changed much over the years... had a ATI card years ago (mach64 or something.. LOL)

Good tweakability is a BONUS++

I am REALLY glad I asked this question or I would have ordered the V-7700 GF2 without hesitation

I really wish there was a "map" of ATI board #s & VE/LEs.. but I think I have this figured out... sort of...
