From my understanding only the top/fastest CPU machines are seeing the real benefits, but Kyro owners seem pleased with their cards.

that gts would be a much better choice for a slower machine. you need a really quick machine to overcome the lack of hardware t&l on the kyro II.

Agreed, but that particular GTS card may not be very dependable... for a couple extra bucks try to get a brand name model (even if it's for a secondary machine/older machine).

I wasn't going to get that brand, I just pulled up the first type of gts that came up on pricewatch. I think I may do that then, although, hopefully I'll upgrade this thing to a duron or slow tbird.

Definitely a GTS/PRO. It should be substantially better than the that B@stard PowerVR chip in the KYRO

the kyro II is not a bad card at all. if you have a fast processor to do the t&l work, then it's bl00dy fast! and the 2d image quality is very good. they're pretty damn cheap as well!

the nvidia cards are always nice, but the kyro II is a good alternative if you find a bargain on one.

Sounds like you need to be brainwashed in the qualities of the Radeon (j/k)

I think that's a pretty good deal. Better than those PNY at least.

Seriously, one more driver improvement on ATI's part, and I'll be the owner of an 8500. They've trimmed the performance margin quite a bit, I think they're hardware has room for one more. Though, as RIDENOW pointed out to me, by the time ATI gets their drivers up to par, NVIDIA will have released their new Detonators, and it may start all over. I'll hold off until after XMAS just to be sure.

I do have an ATI question, btw. Our Bestbuy ad recently advertised a ATI 7500 64mb DDR PCI video card. This would be perfect for my server. However, everything I can tell leads me to believe this was a misprint. Do you know if such a beast exists, or is it just my own ATI unicorn.

Sorry, but I think not. They probably won't either. Too much development time for not that much use or not that many selling. BTW, next time you want to know if a Radeon has a PCI equivilant look in the FAQ on the www.ati.com page. That's one of the questions they always have in their FAQ.

At $110 cheaper than the Ti500 (which, you notice is what all the reviews compare it to, haven't seen any comparing it to the Ti200, same price about), the Radeon 8500 will be the next card I buy, when I find some money
