Logitech Z-640 or ALtec Lnasing 251?

They are both similiarly priced and are 5.1. Which ever one is picked is going to be paired witha fortissimo 3.

Ive read reviews from tomshardware to modfather but still cant make a decision.

What do you all think?

Well, the subwoofer on the logitech one is better. I tell for experience because I used to have the z-240 or something like that and the sub was better that the competition like altec and probably some others at those times. Or go for the Philips one, they have the woox tech on them.

I got ripped. My Z-640's didn't come with the "Hisss - pisss - misss sound problems ". For $54 after rebate, they are damned nice sounding. I'm not too impressed with the 8RDA+ onboard sound but it's not too bad.

I just went down to BestBuy today and listened to the two side by side. Do Not get the Logitechs. Comapring the two was like night and day. The AL 251s had a lot of bass distortion to them and when the bass was adjusted to an acceptible level they sounded tinny. They are plent loud and have a presence for sure but the quality is still not there. It is definatly the best quality you are going to get for under $100, just don't listen to the other speakers there.

The creative labs inspire and the logitech 640 just don't even compare in quality.

I'm starting to sound like a snob and I don't mean to. Out of the Logitech 640s and the AL 251s you will definatly be happier with the AL 251s, especially if you like alot of bass. If you like your bass and treble more evenly balanced then I am afraid you are going to neeed to spend more money (too bad too cause I was hpoing to get off cheap)
