Graphics card for 100.00

What is the best graphics card out there for around 100.00?
I really like and prefer the radeon and the ATI stuff as I am now using a Radeon 32DDR and reaally like it. I need to upgrade but just can't afford a really expensive g. card. Thanks Mike

Better than the 32MB DDR It is pretty nice card, but I don't believe it includes the DX8 stuff. If you want that you'll need to go with an 8500 or a Geforce3.

dang! I didn't realize they were that cheap already

isnt that the old radeon core, not the new one thats in the 8500?, so all he'd really be getting is a little clock speed and 32 more megs of buffer right?

Yup, the 7500 is like an "Ultra" although I've got my radeon vivo running pretty high with stock stuff. For $100, if the reseller has a good rating at www.resellerratings.com, I'd grab that.

The GF2 Pro cards are pretty cheap now, too.

so wouldnt a $60 GTS give ya about the same performance?
I personally think the ti-200, or R8500 are really the only choice for budget DX8 cards. and for $16 more for the 8500, thats what I'm lookin at.

serious question

Hey, what is the diff and which is the best, the GF2 GTS 64DDR or the GF2 PRO 64 DDR. They are the same price and I am not familiar with the Invidia stuff as I have always used Radeon cards. Also, how do you feel about the Leadtech brand of GF2 which is a little bit more money but they claim it is neither a GTS or a PRO and claim it is better. Anyone know??????????? Mike

I purchased a Visiontech GTS-VE from Newegg.com for $65 and am getting 4300 on 3DMARK2001 and 50+ FPS in Wolfenstein with full detail @ 1024 x 768.

Had to replace my old ATI Radion 32 DDR when it died, and was looking for a cheap solution until the GF3Ti500 and Radion 8500 came out, but ended up loving this board so much!

It overclocks to 205/ 333 easily and I've had mine to 220/390 with a little snow in 3DMARK2001 (ramsinks and a new GPU cooler took care of that)

For $70 shipped to your door by one of the best resellers around, it's a steal!

Frankly, I don't know there is a difference between the GTS and PRO cards... but I'm certain a PRO card would be faster.

Question

Before you go and purchase on of the $167.00 Radeon 8500 cards. You should do some research on the cards..That card is clocked at 230/230. Performs about like the DDR64 VIVO (se). You will get a 3dMark2001 score in the 3600 range. If this is what you are looking for OK. Just don't think this card will perform anywhere near the retail boxed version which runs at 275/275. There is a huge difference. I have tried both and have settled on the $300.00 retail boxed card.

If you can come up with about $190.00 you can get the 250/250 OEM card, it will be a good upgrade from what you have. I just would not recommend the 230/230 card for any good system.

Sorry dude, the OEM will still spank for $167... he'll end up getting 6000+ in 3dMark2001, the OEM Radeon 8500 is the same as the retail card, just a shorter warranty and lower default clock speed...

I should explain that the new architecture of the radeon card allows for greater bandwidth, meaning even at same clock speeds it will move more data... and the Radeon 8500 runs all the tests, which also bumps the score...

Who knows. 90% of those (from oc.com) who've bought both the 230 and 250 say their made 275/275 no sweat... but to go beyond that it's a crap shoot. Typically the OEM have slower memory, so they stop at 275ish, which better cards (like the 3.3ns retail) can and do go much beyond 275)... but the question is, will a 230/230 oem get 3600 3dmarks? hell no, maybe closer to double that.

yes

THank you and I Have to agree with you. I am getting over 3000 right now with my Radeon 32DDR and a 800mhz Duron. Grant it I am running the engine and memory at 180 over the default of 150 but it would seem the 8500 in any of it's variations would double anything you can get with a 32DDR.
In my case I am upgrading to the 8500 and at the same time I am chanign cpu's from the 800 Duron to a XP-1700+. So I am very excited to see what my new benches will be. Mike

Mr Pinky::you really need to get a life.. I have tried all these Radeon8500 230-250-275 I know what I am talking about here. You will be lucky to get a 250 out of the 230 card. If you will do the research and study the ATI business plan you will see that the gpu's that will not perform at max speed are sold to OEM manfacturers and these OEM makers make the card that will sell and make a profit. That is how it works, You are nieve if you think that OEM is the same as RETAIL, this is in almost everything. AMD cpu's may be the only exception. Intel cpu's are also done according to the same business plan.

GTS

Last november I bought an Asus V7700 GTS 32m DDR video card. The default core and mem speed show 200/400. I think these are the same values being thrown around in this thread but the second value is much higher. Can anyone tell me if this particular Asus card has faster memory speed than other cards because of it's steep price or what. It was $175.00 bucks cdn and 15% for the freakin' taxes. If it's a 40% exchange rate, thats about $130.00 bucks US. I may have been ripped off....but what a sweet card!
