But if, in my case, the stereo is situated elsewhere in the room, it is usually more convenient to buy a decent 3 piece speaker set.

I have labtecs (the ones in the circle on the right, not the lower left -- those are damn ugly!! ), they are great for $50...

I'll try to find the model I have... Ferrari's other thread also has a decent pair mentioned...

Question

Creative labs and ALtec Lansing make a really good set of (3) piece speakers. The are in the $50-$60 range. Sound really good. We have two system in the same room, so 5-6 speaker sets are not a good idea for us. We both use 3 piece speakers sets.

Ive got a six speaker creative setup (DTT2200) its pretty good for general PC use and playing MP3s.

The surround sound is ace in counterstrike.
Sometimes I get accused of cheating when I hear a opponents position from there footsteps.

There not great HiFi quality speakers but there good enough for me.

Question

Holst::I agree with you, it is just this person asked about 3pc speakers and that is what I was tring to help him with. I would love to have a set of wireless 5.1 surround sound setup too. But the wife plays her system in the same room. It would not be nice if she could not even hear her game over the sound of mine.

Do the ghetto setup like me:

1 Kenwood Home Reciever (circa 1982)
2 Kenwood Home Speakers (circa 1982)
1 Modified RCA to Mini jack

Base from a 10" speaker definitely sounds better than from a 6" (albeit it's not a sealed bandpass or a ported speaker)

Question

Yea, that sound setup sounds awsome. We have in our livingroom, the TV is a 36" Hi def with 820lines of resolution. This is running through a "TEAC" 400 Watt dolby sound amp. The DirecTV digital is also run through this sound system, the DVD player is connected so we have quite a system. The speakers have 2 12" oil cooled bass woofers, and three smaller speakers above the woofers. These are the left and right speakers. The center chanel sits on top of the TV, the left and right rear speakers are sitting on the end tables on oposite sides of the living room. Sometimes we get a really good action DVD and crank up the sound. Our neighbors say the whole house if vibrating from the sound..This is about 50percent, I have never cranked them up over that setting. But it sounds real good, as your do also.. I built this sound system over a period of 5 yrs and it is now a 1998 model (that is the year I finished it) Hope you enjoy yours as we do ours.

ROFL.

The "Kenwood" was a cheapo buy at Sears when it was new. But it does serve it's purpose, specifically in the bass during gaming. But mine compared to yours is a AM transitor radio.
