Radeon 9xxx

I was thinking about getting one of these off dabs they seem to be pretty cheap. 9200 SE
Wandering if anyone can suggest a certain manufacturer..
i want to go with the 128MB offering.

whats better 9200 9200SE?

i currently have my eye on this card maybe in one or 2 weeks..

or if i can spare some more cash:

AFAIK the SE range are factory defects with half the core disabled. Avoid them, they are a cruel trick waiting to catch people out.

if at all possible, go with at least a 9600se. i think the 9200 series dont even support direct x 9

... or maybe you could pool the money until pci-x comes out, then get yourself a good agp card, like a 9800

I think 9600SE has a 325mhz core whereas the 9600XT has a 500mhz core, so quite a difference. As pitch says this is a bit of a trick. But a 9600SE for £50 is good value.

The new nvidia 6800 should be released in about a month, this may push prices of older cards down further.

i think i shall wait a while longer I cannot afford anyway :|

well farcry likes to work very very slowly on a gf2 mx400 gonna up the fsb a little bit more to increase processor speed

edit: it doesnt like that much

the card just has to be better than a 64MB gf2 mx400

and fairly cheap

but i'm gonna wait a bit..

i'll try it out on the main comp.. thats a gf4 ti4200 128Mb

I'm gonna wait a bit longer
i shouldnt be impatient really, its not a must have item a new gfx card, i dont use the computer much, just when my bro comes round sometimes we play some games, at the mo we usually play Renegade, he doesnt mind playing RTCW - ET but for some reason servers appear on one comp and not the other, although i think tASE will fix this.

i dont even have £50 available at the moment just that £50 is easier to pay back on the CC than 129 :|

im gonna wait .. might consider pulling the 64MB gf4 mx440 from the family computer (it was mine in the first damn place!) since they wont be "needing" it at all. my dad is gettin a computer in his room and the people that use the family comp, the most graphic hungry game they usually play is blast thru, or sometimes if my little cousin comes round she might play gta3 on it.. but thats hardly ever.

whats the difference between gf2 mx400 and gf4 mx440 ? I am aware its the same chip but there has to be something better about the gf4 mx440 surely?

If both are AGP cards, there is essentially no difference between those two cards. The GF4 MX 440 is a Geforce2 card, despite the intentionally misleading name.

Im not sure but dont all 9600's essentially have the same core? bit like the 9800's? if thats the case he could probably ramp up the core quite a bit but probably would be the ram holding back....

used to be the same core, however, with the 9600 gpu now being a bad production rv351 instead of the rv350, not all 9600's are alike anymore. they have even changed the default bios that used to be 325/200 for gpu/mem to 324/189. This is due to the newer chips(rv351 9600,se pro,np; rv360 9600xt). the xt chips are r360(9800np/pro/xt) with only 4 working pipelines, relabeled to rv360 to signify the difference.

The se cards have only half the memory bandwidth of the regular cards. They should be avoided like the plague.

the 9200 is basically the same card as the 8500 not sure what they are clocked at though.

I got a 9600 non pro and overclocked the hell out of it and it barely beat my extremely overclocked 8500 retail card.

I would wait and see what happens to the prices now that the X800 Pro cards are coming out.

9200 is a 9000 8x agp card....not a 8500...although they may share the same base processor..i dunno for sure. i went from rage pro to rage 128 pro to radeon 9000 to 9600..each time getting significant increases in performance.....buying a 9600 right now..you may be getting a real good card... my gpu is chipped and the card still does 450 mhz all day long...but the mem sucks and is limitimg me

i hear ATI might/will be releasing the 9550, which is a value-for-money dx9 card.
