Comp USA bad Far cry demo!!! lol

ok so i was at comp usa today and was amazed at how big the samsung 21 inch LCD syncmaster was. Anyway they had it hooked up to a compaq "gaming machine for sale for like $2,600. They guy told me it was an amazing comp and how fast it was and how leading technology bull this and that. THe guy tried to explain Raid-0 to me but was retarded and corrected him on it. Anyways they has Far Cry loaded on it to test the machine. I booted iut up and was ready for a sweet time. The game was sooo damn choppy i couldn't even play. THe vid card was a 5950 ultra and i did the fps command and it was getting like 15 fps. I went to the vid options and it was set at no AA no AF 1280xXXX!! Thats not even the native resolution of the screen (1600x1200). Needless to say they are trying to sell this $2600 comp and a $1000 LCD screen and they pick far cry to let people to test it. The game brought the computer to it's knees. The picture was amazingly huge though!

They had to have something hopelessly screwed in the configuration, then. Based on what I've seen of the comments from others, that machine should have been able to play FarCry just fine.

ANY machine can play farcry
well, maybe not any, but anything over 2ghz.......recommended requirements are a 3gz cpu tho...so keep that in mind.
farcry played flawlessley on my emachines +1800 with 768mb ram and a radeon9000...so there are more issues there than meets the eye. the machine probably had been played so much it just needed a defrag.

That maddox site is hilarious. Dark humour, not really family viewing. The guy's right though. Check out his hate mail page. Grumpy old man grumbling is great (though I'm younger than the author)

I've read EVERY one of his articles, and I've never seen him be more than 70% wrong on any post. I highly recommend reading them. I should note that its highly offensive, so if you're kinda sensetive and you get bothered by stuff, you prolly shouldn't. If nothing else its funny!

From what I understand Directx 9.0b was the minimal prereq. to run Farcry. I completely understand what you are saying though, everytime I walk into Best Buy I have some fart-knocker trying to tell me about gpu's and what not. In the end I explain to him the downfall of everything they tell me and make a few recommendations as to what should be done. i.e. some dude attempted to get me to buy a 9800xt claiming that it had "industry leading technology". Anyway, I learned that people who acctually know what they are talking about tend to get jobs at the tec. desk relatively easy. I would much rather be one of the tards charging rich guys $60 to remove a macro virus than the guy being bothered.

They have something totally hosed in that system to be running that slow. Also with an LCD screen they would get uneven pixel doubling by running it at less tham the native resolution making it look crappy. They should have it running at 800x600 if they want to impress. It is exactly 1/4 the size of 1600x1200 so the screen would just use 4 pixels instead of 1 and eliminate the uneven pixel doubleing. Plus at that resolution (with all drivers, updates, patches, and DX 9.0b installed) they could enable AA and AF and still get better that 60FPS.
