9800XT vs x800 XT

can someone please tell me why the 9800XT's are jus as expensive as an x800XT? The x800 XT kills it in performance by far. What is the logic here?

2 different era's...the 9800XT is the most refined r350/360 you can get. @ 1024x768, it beats the x800 pro for true framerates in some games. The x800, on the otherhand, when in higher levels of resolution, begins to shine.

the x800 is the newest chip on the market, and the "XT" level of this chip is few and far between...about 16 XT PE's went on sale last week, worldwide. That's slightly more than 2 a day, that are XT PE capable, using that shoddy Thermaltake heatsink they use.

IN other words, 9800xt will give you top settings in most games on a CRT, but if you wanta lcd at higher resolutions, or something larger than a 17inch screen, you go x800.

Actually, my explanation is jsut crap, but it seems to me that's how ATI have settled on those price points.

I just think they can't be bothered bringing the price down of the 9*** range because they are probabally on their way out though they have still yet to fill the £100-200 agp card slot. It would be intersting to see if anyone is still buying them though

I am very happy with my 9800XT, and I have to say, my Uncle's 6800o/c is not all that mcuh better for what he paid.

Probably something to do with the individual retailer not wanting to loose money on them compared to waht they paid

I agree with Brad. I have a few friends that have computer shops and they all do the same thing. No one wants to loose $$ on an item. Most of the computer mom and pop shops around me hardly stock anything. The prices for computer hardware are to random. No matter what card you get your getting a top notch card!

I would wait till the prices came down a bit before I give up my 9800XT. But I also would like to see how much of a noticable difference there would be in a non-benchmark scenario!

with the higher-rated card, you'll get more visual effects while maintaining the same fps.
