Question XFX 5900xt

I was wondering if anyone has overclocked one of these and to what lvl ive seen ppl do the 5900 to 5950u bios flash but has anything been done like this. Also i had a factory problem with mine the fan died Twice on it so i accually mounted a 80mm fan to the heat sync just wondering if anyone else had this problem?

I have done extensive testing and overclocking of this card, they are a very quick card if overclocked well and the mounting of an 80mm fan on the heatsink.............

Keeping it cool

having said that..........

Borked Card.....Help!

with a good overclock you could be hitting around 6600+ point 3dmark03, I would advise not flashing the bios to the 5950u, it does not unlock any extra features but merely slackens the memory timings to allow higher frequencies aalong with a slight(dependant on model and bios) voltage increase to the core and memory, the increase in ram latencies actually outweighs the increase in frequency most of the time, also flashing the bios to the exact one required taking into account different feature sets (vivo etc) is risky and will often cause more harm than good

err, anything upto 460mhzcore with the original heatsink and upto about 500mhz with better cooling(that is a very, very good overclock) and between 850mhz and 1000mhz on the ram.
I managed to get mine benchmarking 100% stable with no artifacting at 495/970 on air but it did run very hot which could have been the reason for its demise(but then again something could have fallen on the back of the card and shorted out the track.), increase your gpu 10mhz at a time until you encounter atrifacting(or card gets VERY hot) when you do drop back 5mhz at a time till it stops, a gpu overclock is worth much more than a memory overclock and sometimes putting your memory speed too high can hamper you gpu overclock so clock the gpu first and then repeat the procedure with the memory.

note: dont use nvida autodetect it sucks!

I cant really say without seeing it but if it runs stable the it should be ok, that overclock is not too severe anyway so you should be fine.

(1000/2.8)x2= approx 714, this is the memory's rated speed, the memory could be pushed upto 1000mhz thats about as high as I have seen with this memory. The highest I achieve was 970mhz stable so aim for about 850-100 and you could get anything in between, depends on your exact card
