vertex shader performance

Is there a way of working out the performance gain of enabling pixel pipelines and vertex shaders, for instance with my card at 16,6 it will oc to 410/930 but at 16/5 it will oc to 430/930.
First of all by disabling the shader i had enabled with rivatuner i gain 20mhz(could be because it wasnt 100% perfect), would trying other vertex shader combinations on the card yeild a possible increase?
Secondly I know that in 3dmark the extra vertex shader makes about zero difference, how much does this affect games?

One less vertex unit isnt the end of the world. It would depend on the game, but I really dont think it will make a big difference. Whether it would offset the gain in core frequencey, I really dont know.

Test in some games using fraps maybe?

hmm. well it works 100% fine with 16,6 at 410/930 and I suppose that is about all I can expect from a 6800 with standard ddr memory, just trying to hit my targets of 13000 in 3dmark03 and 6000 in '05.

Yeh i've noticed that, at first i was having 0 problems with all pipes open, but recently textures have been becoming really blocky in certain games, only world of warcraft terrains and NFS:U2 oddly enough. Half life 2, far cry etc working 100% fine! So i disabled my 6th vertex pipe and all the textures are fixed and looking great!

I had the problem with it not allowing overclocks higher than 370 with the 6th pipe open and then getting an extra 10% clock with it disabled! Very interesting.

I'm gonna see if i can push this card past 400 and get at least 850 on memory now that the hot weather is pretty much over with here in the UK.

I dont have any problems with the extra vertex shader open and it overclocks to 410 with all pipes enabled so I think ill leave it at that and try and achieve the extra speed another way, I will hit 13000!

You might hit that goal. The TweaksRUs XG 77.76s have just been released, im about to make a thread about them. Suffice to say, they are pretty damned good.
