In the uk 6800's are cheaper than 6600GT's and 6800LE's are around the same price as 6600's so I wouldn't recomend the 6600 range anymore unless they recieve a large reduction in price soon as at stock, a 6800/6800LE will outperform a 6600/6600GT and you always have the chance of them unlocking to something more |
| ||||
i wud always vote for 6800. its a muscle card among the ones you listed. imagine P4 1.6 GHz and Celeron 1.8GHz. Wat wud u choose? however, if u want, u suhd consider, Gigabyte 3D-1 (2 6600 GT Chips in One Board + Mobo)... dat one can performslightly betetr than 1 6800. thenagain, choice is all yours....

It's actually more in line with a 6800ultra but it's PCI-E only, and needs an SLI board as well even though it's a single card |
| ||||
I think I'll have a 6800 or 6800 LE. Also I am talking only about AGP cards. Thank you guys! I'll let you know when it's inside! |
| ||||
teh 6800's are solid for the cost and quite a few can be bios modded to the full GT pipline spec ![]()

I don't think the bios mod works on card produced after a certain date, there are a set of resistors on the back which determine the pipeline configuration and only rivatuner can unlock their locked pipelines |

Wrong way around. The 6800LE has less processing power than the 6600GT, but it has double the memory bandwidth of the 6600GT. The 6800LE is better for AA in that respect. The LE sounds like the best value option IMO.

6800LE can be unlocked to have 16pixel pipelines i've heard. Is this true?

Devilmyarse was the guy who unlocked the 6800LE then. My bad.

The key word is 'CAN' not will, it's a gamble but I think the odds are quite good for at least unlocking to a 6800 with 12 pipes Oh and dsio the 6800LE doesn't have double the bandwidth of the 6600GT, it only has 40% more |
| ||||
referring to the raw memory bus width, which is 128 bits on the 6600GT and 256bit on the 6800LE.

Seeing as how no one answered my other thread, does anyone know how the X800GT compares to the 6600GT/6800?

The X800GT competes well, beating the 6600GT in anything with the exception of OpenGL. It does not beat it by much however. It is not quite as quick as a 6800 in general, and is around on par with a 6800LE. It does not support SM3.0 however, just like the rest of the X series, and overclocking / unlocking has not been great.

How does it compare against my X800?

Similar. I would imagine the X800 would be slightly faster actually.
