It wasn't my vote, but 4mnth sounds good. For some reason I'm never the person who buys the newest things. I like to wait and see what people think about it, than buy the product.

I'll wait awhile

I always wanted to get my hands on the Radeon, but I'll wait awhile since this new card is being released. Or maybe I should go for the previous generation Radeon since the price on those should fall.

Also, when ATI was still mainstream (back when their boards were put on Macs 4 years or so ago) they were famous for their notoriously bad drivers. Has that situation improved? Can their drivers really use the card to its fullest potential?

As usual, the specs ATI puts out are interesting, but they are only good on paper unless the ATI drivers can really bring them out.

Exclamation

I would wait a little, to see how the Radeon behaves. I'm also thinking about upgrading my vidcard, but I have decided to wait until the Radeons have been on the market for some time, so I can see what other people think about it.

I figured if I didn't get what I could on the new one being returned via RMA I'd never be able to get anything near what I paid... I have my sights on the Radeon card when prices drop and games start to be released.

I still have UT !!

Doom 3 will only run 30 FPS on that card. I doubt that will suffice. I will want, no I demand more form a card that set me back $350. Hell, my geforce 2 Ultra will probably get me the same frame rates minus the really cool extras of the GF3.

Well, if the win2k drivers suck as bad as they do for my 64MB radeon vivo, then I would keep the geforce 3.

Only some minor drivers issues, but I've found 2 sets that work great (the newest ones seem fine too).

BTW, Radeon 8500 has been upclocked.

Now going to be released at 275 Core, 275 Mem

And ATI have been working hard on the drivers (Followed/going to follow a unified driver architecture like nvidia) and should release (to anandatech) the final card + drivers this week, so check back there for proper benchmarking.

I for one can't wait for it, it'll help round out my system.

As for 64DDR ViVo drivers, official drivers are normally fairly skank, same with nvidia, but the beta ones are pretty sweet (www.rage3d.com). I am happy with my card.

Zorro.

Fpr now the Radeon 64DDR Vivo has been comparable to the GF2 Ultra I just sold because of the poor 2d graphics.

Dogma, ace film.

mrpcman,
Where are you getting yor betas from?, ATI's Special Purpose drivers are OLD and I find pretty naff........

I get all my drivers from www.rage3d.com (OR linked to from there)

I tend to download all of them and then run through them benchmarking (And playtesting) until I find the best one for what I do...

That tends to give me the best for my tasks.

I haven't used the drivers direct from ATIs site for quite some time now.

Zorro.
