I don't understand, so the performance was actually slightly worse with the new drivers?

They were aimed at increasing stability, rather than improving performance. A performance driver is likely to come sooner or later.

Keep in mind the beta for the 6800Ultra was about 50% as fast as the current drivers are, and its far less complicated.

Another quality article from l'inq there then.

It would of been far more useful if they posted benches of dual sli and single card performance as well to show how much of a boost quad sli brings.

Looking at the 3dmark figures they are very poor.
my single x1900xt is almost as quick as those! and thats in the gpu dependant benchmarks. I can get into the 13k's in '05 they only hit 13.5k.

in 06 they get 8.5k i can get into the low 7k's Not much of a boost for 4x the gpu's
