8800GTS 320mb or 8800GT 256mb

with my recent purchase of a 9600GT turning sour im back shopping for a graphicss card.
my current 2 choices are:

either a refurbished XFX 8800GTS 320mb for £55
http://www.xfxshop.co.uk/product_det...F&cat=preowned

or PNY 8800GT 256 mb for £47
http://www.ebuyer.com/product/149370

reviews vary greatly and i cant get a good idea from them so any advice would be awesome. i've been warned already against the fact that they are very short on ram but price is an issue tbh and both are relatively cheap

I am a Nvidia man so I would say the GT.

I know where a 320 meg GTS with a full cover WB is now for less than 100 bucks.

Never mind. you are on the other side of the pond.

Still the GT will serve you well.

Then again the ATI/AMD card has more vid memory for higher res.

thats a realy helpful review and was the one the lead me towards buying the 8800gt but then i read another where the 8800gt 256 was performing 25% worse then a the 51 .

then again the cheapest 512mb costs almost twice as much so it would be better just to buy 2 of the 256mb cards

I second that. i just got the KFA2 9600GT OC for $89 after MIR and lt has dropped to $79, and it beats the 8800, both the GT and the GTS.

I say it's time for a new Mobo...
When you can afford it of course.
The one you have now would piss me off so much I'd end up frizzbeing it out in the park to watch it smash into the ground into pieces!

On another note:
Have you tried updating the Chipset drivers for that mobo?
That may also fix this problem.

When it comes to problems like this you have to try any & everything you can think of doing!

I don't think you looked at the specs on this card. It's the OC model!

i can overclock mine myself =)

Theres only one way to settle this! the difference between your system and mine is the graphics card, once mine arrives we'll battle it out in the 3dmark arena.

Whoever has the highest score was right!

Hey Porpor, just OC your card by about 20% an there will be no contest.
Use the EVGA Precision OC Utiltiy to do it. It's easy.
I'm not taking sides here mind you...if one can OC his card, it's only fare the other gets to do the same thing right?

I've been thinking of leaving the card stock and just OC'ing the CPU. That should make him eat his oysters.

its a shame i just reflashed my bios, i had a setting saved where my cpu was running at 3.6Ghz ,

reviews are showing that my card dominates in resolutions 1280x1024 and under with no AA/AF, beyond that it seriously suffers
