NO Ram Sinks? And they are so small?

I just got hold of a ti4600 and this is my first look at anything newwer than a gf3. But the ram chips are TINY! Not to mention they don't have any cooling!

Can anyone point me in the righ direction for some info on this new technology? Or even what it's called?

Maybe its just me, but I have never really seen the light when it comes to RAM cooling. I dunno what the big fuss is all about. Am I just old fashioned? Does it really help a lot to cool RAM? I don't think so, but I could be wrong.

As for the small RAM chips... I have no idea!

From what I have read they are TINYBGA packaging that allthe new cards come with. Cool beans!

I'm still quite impressed they need no cooling.

BGA run a bit cooler and are obviously smaller. They can still get hot, but only with extra voltage and high clock speeds.

Those chips do need cooling after a little overclocking-- which card did you get? The best cooling is on the leadtek GF4 series- full rap around- dual fan system- ive gone to 325 on a 4400 with it!

You need to construct a shoot to feed dry ice in to; that is if you want to do some propper overclocking

While HS's on system RAM suck a little extra heat away from the DIMMS, the primary interest in them is from folks who overvolt their DIMMS. Now that PC-2700+ is here, some manufacturer's put HS's on their modules at the factory.

OCer's discovered that HS's on Vidcard RAM allowed them to grab some extra Mhz while searching for the limit from their AGP cards. Installing the HS's yourself was the only option until the Vidcard maker's started doing so at the factory. I don't know if it means that the Vidcard's Memory Modules are already OC'd, when there are heatsinks on the RAM right out of the box.

Installing HS's on your Vidcard's RAM yourself was a bit more painstaking than some people realized. Which boosted sales of Vidcards after folks destroyed them by "helping" them.

The heatsnk on the GF4s is designed to blow a little air over the ram (at least that was part of their selling point...)... problem is, there are bga chips on the bottom of the card too
