Personally, Sony branded trinitrons seem overpriced. I've used third party branded trinitrons and have loved them for a much lower price. Remember, sony makes all trinitrons, and sells the tubes.

I want one of those wiz-bang projectors, I watch a lot of movies on my PC, so it'd be perfect, probably cost a heck of a lot less than a comparably sized TV too.

ViewSonic made the most monitor you could get for your money, roughly a year ago. Three year warranty, the whole magilla.

Monitors have nosedived in price over the last year. If I had to buy a brand new monitor(don't worry, it'll happen) I think I'd still stick with ViewSonic. Taking care to buy one with anti-glare coating(the bottom of the line monitors all seem to feature that wonderful "hey, I can see myself!" mirror effect nowadays). And a three year warranty, too.

If you decide to buy locally, ask the salesperson to plug the prospective monitor in, and attach it to a box. Why buy a broken monitor? Don't worry, salespeople love to go that extra 100 feet for you!

17" or 19"? Isn't everything larger than the 9.5" diagonal IBM Personal Color monitors of yesteryear pure extravagance? Kidding!

Well, Im looking at the 19" viewsonic P90F because it can do 1280 X 1024 @ 101hz I understand that 100+ hz refresh rate is the recommend rate by TCO '99 standards....... 85hz being the minimal. http://www.viewsonic.com/products/crt_p90f.htm

I spend way way too much time in front of my PC nowadays...and I think the "grades" of my eyes went up a notch again.

And also, Im planning to watch TV thru my PC. Hence, I want a bigger monitor heheheheh

Thanks guys

I had one of these before i got my 18 inch lcd and they are an awesome monitor

But get it out of the box and test it in the shop for distortion around the edges of the screen as they use very cheap circut boards

how i found this out is when mine broke and i took it to repair, they had three goes at it and still could not fix it in the end they gave me a new one

What the tech guy was telling me is they use cheap componetry in these monitors but who cares when they have three years warranty but also in three years you'll get something better anyway

I really like my 19" ViewSonic, but it had a small issue about brightness at one time. Dunno what happened, but it fixed itself after two weeks!

LOL

My 19" viewsonic pf-790 which i've owned for about 2 years is awsome. it looks similar in quality to my 17" sony trinitron, but cost less and was bigger.
