4xAGP with new GFX card - worth it?

Hello,

I want to upgrade my gfx card, (I currently have a GForce 4 Ti4200) to either a GForce FX 5700 or a ATi 9600. Here is my question: My MB (Epox 8k5a2) only has a 4x AGP slot.

Will it be worth while to upgrade or will the 4x AGP negate the improvement in performance gained with the new gfx cards?

Thanks.
Michael

AFAIK, 8x AGP is all marketing.. it doesn't give much performance gain so far. I could be wrong though.

I think Allan is right there.

You should see both a gain in performance and image quality, even with 4x AGP.

No hardware or software really takes advantage of 8x yet. Actually, even 4x isn't completely utilized yet.

the 4x and 8x wont make much diff
but the cards your thinking of arent much better
u will see little gains
the cards u listed are newer but really not much better

AGP 1x has a data transfer rate of 266mb per second, AGP 8x is 2,133mb per sec.

So AGP 8x allows more bandwidth than current graphics cards need.
