VooDoo 5500

Are these still worth anything?!?! If so how much?!!? It does have two processors on it.

If you're trying to sell it you could probably still get like 50-75 dollars for it.

Not because it can perform well at all compared to current tech, but because there are still a decent amount of 3dfx fans who want a peice of the history that still works.

robbie 12th April, 2004 02:22 PM

Really?!?! Perhaps I should post some pix?!?! Got any links to any of these 3dfx fans?!?!?

I'm a fan of the 3dfx stuff, but not to that extent. I've got a 3dfx Voodoo 3 2000 in my kids' machine. Maybe I ought to sell it? :)

dolanenwindrift 12th April, 2004 10:34 PM

I recently sold two Voodoo 3 2000 PCI cards on Ebay, got about $40 each for them. As for the 5500, they are still popular with the Flight SIm crowd as a lot of the older Flight Sims used 3dfx.

robbie 12th April, 2004 11:50 PM

I back in the day was a big fan of 3dfx as well. I got a look at the card and I must say, it looks pretty impressive (err for it's time) I'll take some pix tonight and post.

It would be fair to say you would find some of these 3dfx fanboys on Ebay :).

Staz 13th April, 2004 03:57 PM

That has got to be the longest video card I have ever seen.

dolanenwindrift 13th April, 2004 10:36 PM

Robbie if you do decide to get rid of that card, I'd be interested in doing some swapping for it.

Nice card - a piece of history...

But for sheer 3Dfx 'god' status it would have to be a Voodoo 5 6000. 4 GPU's, 128MB VRAM and as long as your arm...

so rare  only a few hundred (or was it thousand) were ever made.

pity nvidia canned support for it a long time ago :(

i got a 64MB voodoo5 5500 from ebay..

its good until you need a dx8 + game :(
try playing renegade with it.. lol

there might have been a "revenge" card coming out at some point but the main guy responsible for it passed away i believe :(.

SoddemFX 27th April, 2004 02:42 PM

I heard there were only a handfull of working V5 6000's in the world. Most of the ones that came out were duds produced in the last weeks of 3Dfx

What was the revenge card going to be like?

16VPU's, 1024MB SDR, 4 card SLI...... :) :) :)

XeroHouR 27th April, 2004 04:31 PM

WHY WOULD U NEED 4 GPUS lol. just use one really good one :P I miss those days. I went right frommy ATi sapphire ooold really bad card to a geforce 256 annihilator pro when it first came out AHHH the good old days. Yall remember that card, in the midnight black box. Open item best buy $150.

Nice peice of history you have there, I bet some guru would pay for it.

i think it was 4 gpus i cant remember much, except it was supposed to be much better than the nvidia/ATI best GFX cards offerings at the time, i think when it was first mentioned people didnt believe it.. some still didnt believe it...

aparently the person responsible for it was deported out of the us after 9/11 and had some spinal cancer i believe. He was supossed to have had the sourcecode given to him from someone at nvidia who he never revealed who it was. He had the corporate contacts to fund production i think..

but I think he succumbed to the cancer and took the secret with him..
i think he said he would give the code to a trusted person.

but my memory is not so good on the subject as i only joined the forums when i got my voodoo5500 for a short time. I woulda kept using it because it worked just fine with my celeron 733, only problem was some games i wanted to play with that comp (renegade) were dx8.1 and wouldnt work properly with it :( the terrain became transparent makin it alost impossble to play, couldnt see where you was goin cos of inisible walls
