Beta Ati Drivers!
They were mentioned in my post about the new's a link...check 'em out for yourself!

what are these like on performance? im sticking with 4.8 fot the moment as 4.9 lowered my FPS

cadaveca 29th September, 2004 02:19 AM

really depends on game, however it does allow the gpu to use the full 256mb on cards equipped so. Also solves some memory errors in certain games, like the CS:S beta.

Gave me an extra 3k in Aquamark.

that's why i dropped the link yesterday. i knew that all of us ati users here would need it!

OMG... Look what it did to CSS

cadaveca 29th September, 2004 08:28 PM

wroks fine for me.. i'll snap a screenie...but i'm on a r360 too.
that looks like memory texture corruption, if you ask me. try playing with agp aperature.
Thankfully it's just a driver issue, and not something more serious!
Newer drivers are not going to give better overclocking performance as well, as they will push a card harder than before, which , of course, can affect your clocks. I believe it's the full 3Dc implementation in the driver than gives your card such a boost.

GrahamGarside 30th September, 2004 12:32 AM

is 3dc backward compatable or is it r420 only?

420 only. well, the newer chips may have it as well, and they are just starting to trickle in. 3Dc is ATI's comeback for Nvidia implementing PS 3.0 in the 6800.

The R500 should ( and i stress SHOULD) feature PS 3.0...but there has been no official anniuncement in regards to that.

i have found CS:S to be my new vid card overclocking other game/program will get my card to generate artifacts so quickly.

Pitch 30th September, 2004 05:02 AM

Yea, especially inside the building.

cadaveca 30th September, 2004 06:13 AM

yep. the darker areas are the best for texture corruption. I can 3dmark fine @ 440/365, but CS:S only gets 425/347. That's a big hit in performance. BIG.

GrahamGarside 30th September, 2004 03:16 PM

just use ati tool and have differant profiles, it's not like cs:s will struggle at those speeds is it :)

cadaveca 30th September, 2004 04:28 PM

actuallly, i get FPS dip into the single digits, but it is not easy to lag the card that much,32 playres on sceen all firing do that tho
