Overclocking 5900xt

Ive overclocked my xfx5900xt upto 440/950 from 390/800, if i put the core even 10mhz higher i encounter no stability issues(upto 470mhz) but the temperature of my gpu rockets suddenly(judging by the blistering heat coming off the core heatsink), anyone recommend any good cooling solutions that they have tried?(i have already replaced the cheap thermal grese on the heatsink)

My usual recomendation is the arctic cooling range. They are pretty much the most effective coolers and also very quiet. I use one on my 6800 and the highest my core ever reaches is 62°C

Can;t beat the artic coolers...very simple to install. I got better results with a zalman ZM80d-hp, but the number of parts and proper paste application make it a very hard one to get right. too 5 installs before i firugred it out...and still the last install i redid twice.

The problem i have is that being an XFX the ramsinks are stuck on with thermal glue, cant get them off without damaging the ram chips i dont think, but if i can get them off i will try one of the arctic coolers..cheers

Hey MM, if you really want them off I tell you how to do it. You put the card in the fridge for about half an hour and then you gently rotate them until they come loose.

Right ive got the ramsinks off..... while ive got it busted apart does anyone with some electronics knowledge deeper than mine(ie. burning smells are bad) know if i could swap the slower memory on the XFX 5900XT for some uberfast memory off my old 5700ultra(i believe it is a demonstration model sent to a benchmarking labs in the UK)? the memory on the 5700ultra runs stable upto 1.17ghz(with extra cooling).
Im currently getting 6,200points on 3dmark03 which is not too bad for a 5900xt but i reckon there is more to be had out of it.

I really don't think that would be possible, I take it you have a 5700 with gddr3? I just don't think it would be electronically compatable with the 5900 card, and the bios probably wouldn't recognise it, plus it would take super human soldering skills to pull it off
