XT portable

Hey

I just picked up a working XT computer (8088). It's a big screamin 8 Mhz. The cool thing is the KB is built in the case and hinged and it has a small CGA type display. I think this would be a groovin LAN rig with the right changes. I can come up with a mobo and power supply and such but does anyone know of a smaller display that will fit without costing a bundle. This thing is pretty big so I have plenty of room.

I looked at some of the LCD stuff out there. Holy man is that stuff a little spendy.

Thanks

An XT was before the 8086 processor. 486,586,686 so on. This is and XT that has the monitor keyboard built in. The keyboard drops down,(hinged) and exposes the floppy drives and the monitor. I will have pics soon.

I t will be monday b4 I get pics. Sorry for the suspense.

I will show some pics of the inside also. I have to figure out what will fit in this thing. The monitor is gonna be a pain. The display is only 7" x 5 1/2". Not sure what I can come up with.

That'd be a 10" monitor with 8.5 or so viewable.

Is it a trinitron, or a bubble screen?

(It is a CRT, right?)

It is a CRT. And it's a bubble screen. the prob is it is a orange display. I beleive that is a CGA display. If it was at least a color VGA I would just use it.

Then just get over to ebay, and get a 10" color monitor to put in it.

Transplanting a display isn't hard. A monkey could do it.

To give you a reference point, the 8088 was a screaming CPU around 1978, give or take a couple of years.

As I recall, the IBM XT was introduced in 1983. I remember that year because I got my first IBM PC in 1981, and they improved it 2 years later. The XT came with a 10MB hard disk, you probably have 25 times that capcity in RAM right now. The CPU was a 8088 which ran at the incredible breakneck speed of 4.7 Mhz. I believe it came with a half-height 5 1/4" floppy which by that time was double sided so it held 320K of data. Back then graphics was pretty much limited to CGA, which offered the breathtaking resolution of 320x200 at 16 colors. Things have changed quite a bit in 20 years if you take a minute and think about it.
