Exclamation Opinion about the best P4 HSF...

I'm new to the board, but I was wondering if I could get some input from those that know more than I...

I have an EPOX 4PCA3+ loaded with a P4 2.8Ghz 800Mhz FSB. I am running it currently with the stock HSF which mostly is good. I am running around 42 degrees Celcius at idle. I am trying to make the system as quiet as possible and was wondering if any has a suggestion on a quiet and effective solution that won't break the bank (less than $50)...

Thanks in advance.

Don

I have used the Zalman coolers in the past for my AMD rigs, and loved them, specifically the CNPS-6000 Cu... I was wondering if the Socket 478 version is noticably better than stock...

I just went with water cooling.

Before I just the stock HSF, tried the Thermaltake P4 Spark 7+. They both did about the same.

It looks like the one he listed is the older version, the new one is the CNPS7000(A) and it is great. I bought one to run at low speed in my HTPC but it wouldn't fit due to the Antec HTPC having the PS flush with the side of the mobo and there is a bit of over hang with the Zalman. I put it in my new main rig with a P4C800 E deluxe and it fit no problem, super easy to install too. Zalman has a list of mobos it won't fit on: http://www.zalman.co.kr/english/prod...oard_list.html and your Epox isn't on it, so I don't see you having a problem. The Zalman has a lot of clearence underneath it so caps shouldn't be a problem. I run mine at full speed, I don't use the Fanmate and it is very, very quiet yet performs with the best of the loud monsters, I tested low speed, it is inaudble and still cools well, I am quite pleased with mine. I bought it at Newegg, but a number of places carry them.
