Everest won't work, at least not in the way you expect. WINE supplies dummy values and generic information to programs, so nothing will be accurate.

Let me know how you find it, unlike Cedega it is free, and somewhat popular and mainstream these days.

If WINE meets your needs for games and windows applications you might be able to get past those items that were tying you to win2k.

The online tax return application supplied by the Australian government actually runs correctly under it. The same program didn't run at all on Win2K last I tried it.

But yea, in recent times WINE has had alot of support from some industry heavy hitters. Google being a company that is about half linux on its desktops was keen to get programs like Adobe Photoshop supported among other tools they needed, so they put money and time into the project to improve it. A year or two ago WINE was very average, now it really is very good.

thats a far cry problem not a wine problem, it happens on windows too.

What you might like to try... if you have your windows hard disk mounted under fedora, navigate to the directory that far cry is installed in on your windows disk, and run the .exe to start farcry by typing

wine farcry.exe

(or whatever the filename is to start the game).

OK, I reinstalled farcry in my windows drive, it is shown as mounted in fedora...
Now I need a step by step as messing about isn't getting it and I may be trying to do something that won't....

Instructions please? ":O}

navigate to the directory where the far cry executable is, alternatively, open your file browser, navigate to the far cry directory on the windows disk, and double click on it and see if it launches that way.

diso...I'm just opening the W2K drive Icon on my Fedora desktop, I'm not sure if that's the approach you want me to take....?

So you tried navigating to that bin32 directory on the command line and running:

wine FarCry.exe

?

Yes, post #29 shows a picture of what happens when I just click on it, when I right click, nothing happens ...at all...ever. Hard to document that in picture form.":O}

Hmm ok.

It should just install normally though, the bug you encounter is not linux specific.

Never had it installing in W2K. Any cures out there?

Hey! What happens if I tell wine to do it thing as W2K, (In Wine> Applications> Windows version)

Would that mess up Steam or Everest or the other stuff I've been trying out?

I just kept trying, one of the things I tried is installing it WITHOUT directX 9B, (Do any of the Stream games require 9B?)

Now I have it installed, and configured in the Config start up menu, but can't get past the start up screen...? Direct X 9B seems to be a problem...?

Might be that applying the updates and patches before trying to start it might help.

Yep, that seem likely to me as well...1.30, 1.31, 1.32, 1.33 and 1.4 all installed.

I have it installed, just won't run without 9B and I can't get 9B to install....sigh...
