OpenVZ/KVM

Does anyone here have any experience with running test OS installations on these virtualization platforms in lieu of VMWare? I have been under the impression that VMWare was the only [reasonable] game in town, but clearly I'm wrong.

I actually use VirtualBox myself. I'm having a few issues right now with the most recent 2.1.2 update, but prior to that, it's been very solid.

Like Gizmo, I run VirtualBox. I run version 2.06 which is very solid and stable.

There are two different versions of VirtualBox, the OSS version lacks a couple of features that the downloaded version from Vbox has. Most notably so far is USB device support. (Such as printers). I choose to use the download version as I run Windows XP and any linux flavor I decide to run that week in a VM and do like my to have full functionality of my printer from windows or other OS's..

OpenVZ is a bit of a pain in the ass, I used to have the commercial version, Virtuozzo on a server and it was rather unpleasant to run. VZ is not as powerful as other implementations in that you have one single modified multiplexing kernel running the host and all guests.

The two methods I use at the moment are Virtualbox for desktop, and Xen for server virtualization. Xen has a great deal of power performance and control and is great for higher end server deployments, while Virtualbox is very easy and well integrated on the desktop.
