PS3 Linux, who's tried it?

Never really got serious with it until now, but its actually turning into quite an interesting little media PC. Most codecs are supported and streaming from network storage sources is fairly good.

Some people have managed to get Windows XP and Mac OSX running on the unit too (hacky but possible).

With Yellow Dog 6.1 allowing you to use the additional 256MB of graphics ram as swap the performance is actually acceptable too.

The emulators available are pretty decent too, playing some of my favorite SNES games with a sixaxis controller on a 40" LCD is quite enjoyable

I ran Gentoo with Fluxbox on my PS3 until I replaced the drive with a larger unit. Just haven't had the urge to reinstall since then..

About the only thing I found useful in doing so was being able to use the bluray drive. It was decent for being able to make portable copies of movies to take on the road, but when I was home it didn't matter as I already had the movie and everything else I need I can stream..

Advantageous if you find you're using the PS3 as a media centre.

Yellow Dog + StreamMyGame is an awesome combination.

I was going to install Yellow Dog this week on one of my PS3s since I bought a StreamMyGame membership for the year, but decided against it because it just seemed too much hassle. =/
