The only thing that bugs me in all of this is that my PS3 WILL NOT recognize my Corsair Voyage 16 gig thumb drive but will immediately recognize my Corsair Voyage 4 gig drive...anyone know what's up with that!?

Sorry for quietness, was on a plane and then had to go and eat bacon, get drunk and various other things I've been unable to do for several months.

Greetings from a grey and wet England, by the way.

With respect to your 16GB thumb drive, back up all your files from it and reformat it using FAT32 (vfat if you use Linux). It's a fairly common problem.

Cool! How do I format it in Mint or Fedora Vfat...I can boot to Dos with a Win 95 dos disk, but no longer use Any windows OS.

New problem, after add and removing text ( Linux files)and music file (MP3) all day long yesterday I keep get this message and nothing I try will change permissions ( Which SAY I own the files)

Can I reformat it in Vfat (Corsair Voyager 4 gig drive...do I need to, what's going on errrrr!!!!))? If so how please...":O}

I booted to a Win 95 dos floppy and formatted the drive, seems to be working great...

This is on my 4 gig that locked out any changes and though it said I owned the file, wouldn't let me change permissions to deleat files..

As I have my PS3 loaded already... I'll wait until I hear from you guys as to what is most likely to work moving files to my PS3.

I had that problem as well, the ownership of my thumb drive was wrong somehow...

This should make it OK [as root]:
Code:
chown -R daniel:daniel mountpointofthumbdrive
for me it looked like this:
Code:
chown -R thunderrd:thunderrd /mnt/kingston
This changes both the user and group ownership to your account. There isn't any reason I can see not to own your own thumb drive. The -R makes the command recursive so it also applies the settings to all subdirectories.

Your mount point might be in /mnt or perhaps /media. You'll have to find it. If you don't know where it is post back.

BTW you can format to any file system in the partition manager. If it's not set up in your machine and you want it in Mint, use synaptic or do this as root:
Code:
apt-get install gparted

Many thanks Thunderbird! I'm all better now! ":O}

Yes Kaitian, reformatting to Fat 32 solved my 16 gig drives access to my PS3, thank you!

Ah, three pieces of good news today then, to offset three pieces of bad news.

Glad to hear it's working.

Had a quick look into Mint (live CD) and it seems to be there.

To install in linux Mint (if using apt)
Code:
sudo apt-get install soundconverter
First setup your preferences - Edit -> Preferences
Then choose your folder and sub-folders
Then select 'Convert' and wait till its done.
It will pickup and take across any id3 tags you have.

EDIT:

If you are wanting to rip CD's using a GUI, maybe ripperX, it is GUI based and has several easily configured options.

Code:
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install ripperx && sudo apt-get install mpg123 && sudo apt-get install sox && sudo apt-get install cdtool && sudo apt-get install flac && sud apt-get install toolame
I'm reinstalling all my stuff in Mint 8 came here for this and realized that for some reason I hadn't thank you for this little gem, so thank you Noob!!

Mint 8 has a very nice feel to it, much like Mint 7. ":O}

Glad you like it - I had installed maybe 20 different apps before stumbling across that one when I started out with Ubuntu. Everyone was pointing out command line, coming from a windows environment, and wanting repeatability (as I couldn't write a script) I needed a nice easy GUI.

I still use it, its easier, just as fast, works for multiple directories every time (something my scripts never did), and has all the options I will ever use.

The basic look and feel of Ubuntu and derivatives I feel they have actually got right. It's the same each time. There's nothing like installing a brand new OS and being able to find everything instantly, in the same place, no stupid changes.

Mint 8 is coming along very nicely, everything that worked before still works! Some nice improvements, nothing dramatic...but who needs the drama!~? ":O}
