Had some problems with nvidia-kernel-source not compiling when Sidux wanted to dist-upgrade to this kernel. Apparently I'm not alone; there is a new revision on the way that should solve the problem. I'm not sure if it is a Sid-only problem.

For now, if you are running the non-free drivers, it might be best to stay away from a kernel upgrade until it is sorted out.

Compiled it today. I'm using the open-source ati driver (with Mesa 7.7 for r600 acceleration) so not affected by the nVidia/nouveau changes. Also not using KMS (has a big performance hit with r600 still).

The new kernel is good. My system feels snappier and appears to use slightly less memory. It's not a fair test, though as I changed the memory allocator from SLAB to SLUB and the RCU thingummy from normal to pre-emptable.

If you're using nv, hold off as ThunderRd suggested. For everyone else, try it and see what happens. It's a nice bugfix release - no major changes, just tidying up and fixing wot woz broke.

My linux install has been so well behaved over the last month I refuse to update anything other than security fixes. I've been working with the authors of a couple apps I want to run in linux and have been making some progress towards not having to buy Windows 8. Already have 7 so no hope for me there.

Sorry I haven't been posting, I check in daily to make sure everybody is OK, but time is limited once again.
