Have it installed, waiting for my interest to peak before I try to get Nvidia working...

Running the nVidia drivers is a PITA now. They've changes something in how Plymouth handles startup such that you can't switch to a different virtual terminal when things go south now.

I think it time for me to find/try a new second Linux (after Mint).

Can anyone suggest another Linux that respects my ignorance and installs or makes it easy to install Nvidia drivers? ":O}

Hmm, that's odd, as the number of virtual terminals is normally set in /etc/inittab rather than by the boot loader

I found it right perplexing as well, but for some reason, when my nVidia drivers are borked by e.g. a kernel update, I'm left staring at the Plymouth boot screen and I can't switch to any of the VTs. When I disable Plymouth (by removing the kernel parameter rhgb from the command line) I am able to, and then I can recompile my drivers and make everything right again.

Reading around it looks like Plymouth lacks the ability to create framebuffers, set vga modes or use an SVGAlib fallback if the kernel or initrd don't help out.

Chances are your other virtual terminals exist but you can only get to them if you ssh in.

I read one post on the Ubuntu forums saying that removing Plymouth and putting v86d and usplash back in made life a lot easier with the nvidia driver.

Myself, I don't have boot graphics - boot doesn't last long enough to worry.

So if you run NVidia, then you shouldn't try Fedora? I just burned 13 and was going to install it over Ubuntu (which has some lag in it, for some reason). Mint 9 still runnin' fine.

I'm sure there are reasons to prefer Fedora over Mint, but for me and my needs....Mint's makes EVERYTHING I need go out of the box with hardly any mess! ":O}
