Preupgrade worked for me, right up to the point where I rebooted into the new system. Then it hung up with the Fedora logo on the screen.

It appears that if you are running the proprietary nVidia drivers, you have to go through a few hoops:
  1. Download the latest nvidia drivers for your hardware to some convenient location, such as /usr/src/nvidia
  2. uninstall your nvidia drivers. Assuming your drivers are located in /usr/src/nvidia and you have the 190.54 drivers currently installed, you would
    Code:
    su -
    cd /usr/src/nvidia
    ./NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-190.53-pkg2.run --uninstall

  3. You need to rename your xorg.conf file:
    Code:
    su -
    rename conf conf.save /etc/X11/xorg.conf

  4. edit your grub.conf for the kernel you are booting and remove the 'rhgb quiet' entries on the kernel line, then save the file.
  5. reboot the system.
  6. You should now come up in text mode. Copy your xorg.conf back into place:
    Code:
    su -
    rename conf.save conf /etc/X11/xorg.conf.save

  7. cd to where your new drivers are located and install them.
  8. edit your grub.conf file, and put the 'rhgb quiet' entry back in the kernel boot line and then save your changes to grub.conf.
  9. reboot the system.
You should now be up and running in F13 with the new nVidia drivers.

Supposedly, the Nouveau drivers built into the kernel have 3D support now, but I'll be hanged if I can figure out how to get it working.

I tried to upgrade from the Disk as well, "Couldn't Sync" or something like...

I'm going for a clean install, then fight Nvidia out with Fedora from there...":O}

no way, I"m not typing all that code...
I would do a clean install with the iso too.
But........
I'm still in the dark ages with Fedora 8.
Over two years now and still loving it.
