Everything seemed to go well... But Nvidia doesn't show up in my menus and Compiz can't do the Rotating cube thing.. so I think we fell a link short some where along the line...?

I tried a second time but everything came up as already installed....

Let's first check that everything installed correctly.
Post output of:
Code:
glxinfo |grep rendering
I don't run compiz so I'll have to check what is needed to make everything work correctly.

I'm sure the Mint team doesn't have everything that is in the standard edition in the debian edition as of yet. I think it is just a test run so far.

Cliff;

For compiz I think you only need mesa and cairo, and a window decorator. I use emerald, but there are others. Tomorrow I can take a look at my sid setup and see if I've missed anything.

Is this something I should be concerned about? I tried several times and get the same results. I did a MAJOR update right after I installed .... Temporary glitch?

Possibly a glitch.

Try:

Code:
sudo apt-get upgrade

Will the Nvidia card play the glxgears and maybe a game? Just wanted to know if the drivers are working even though the control panel isn't

The driver will work without the control panel. The control panel is a separate app.

Exactly! Just like ATI's drivers. You don't have to use the Catalyst Control Center. So try out a game and see if you have the 3D performance

The glxinfo | grep rendering command checks for 3d accel so if it comes back yes then you are good to go.

I haven't been able to get into the compiz issues as of yet. The latest round of Arch updates broke a couple of packages I use quite often. Unfortunately those packages are no longer getting any love from the developers so I have been testing replacements.

As Cliff says "Yes!" I found the app for Nvidia settings in the Package manager...just search "Nvidia".

You can overclock your card as well!":O}

Not to worry about Compiz Cliff! I've got it all working. Just needed to search "Package manager" for the "Compiz fusion icon" it sets Compiz as window manager and lets you select "loose bindings". For me that's all it took.

I also found the Nvidia X server Settings app in Package manager...

I seemed to be pretty squared away in D'Mint! ":O}
