Debian based Mint

Anybody try this one yet? Better than Ubuntu based?
I have it burned to disc, but haven't run it yet.

I have it installed on my backup rig, It works fine, no issues. The biggest advantage is being based on Debian testing, it now becomes a rolling release rather than a 6 month release.

Nope, but let me know some of the differences... I'm curious. Two items I always have problems with is Video Drivers and Installing Flash Player.
Do they have some easy way to install these?

Debian is a solid distro in itself and makes a great base for any project. Debian's standards on when a package can be called stable are quite a bit higher than others as well. Even when using the "Testing" branch of Debian you can rest assured it has already been well tested.

Mint may have something here if they stick with it. Solid base, ease of use, and best of all no reinstalls, just a weekly "apt-get upgrade" and your all set.

I gave it a try on Friday. All went well until I tried to install my Nvidia Drivers. I went into package manager and ran a search and installed the nvidia packages that seemed applicable. Did a reboot and found I was at 600X800.

So I tried apt-get at the advice of terminal... ( sorry I didn't write anything down and my memory for theses things sucks!)

Everything seemed to go well ( A fair amount of installation took place)

But when I re-booted I got a blinking cursor...

So! I decided to wait until I had what look like a plan to try again...

Or put more simply... Help! LOL

uh, no. Remember my post about ATI drivers in Fedora? I gave up after 10 installs and hours of troubleshooting.
What a pain!
Out of curiosity... what card to you have?

Give me a little time and I'll put together a copy/paste for you. How's your command line these days?

After Cliff helps you out, please let me know how it goes...

Not completely cut and paste, you'll have to edit one file.

First you have to edit a file

Code:
sudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list
add contrib non-free to the end of the line so it looks like the one below. Don't add the entire line this is just an example.

deb Index of /debian squeeze main contrib non-free

save and exit

Code:
 sudo apt-get update
Code:
sudo apt-get install module-assistant nvidia-kernel-common
Code:
sudo m-a auto-install nvidia-kernel${VERSION}-source
Code:
sudo apt-get install nvidia-glx${VERSION}
Code:
sudo apt-get install nvidia-xconfig
Code:
sudo nvidia-xconfig
reboot and all should be well

I can't believe Cliff double-posted....
How does Dan find the linux version?
What if he gets errors about kernel and devel packages like I did?
