Daniel: "USB floppy disk drive when creating a SATA RAID driver disk. (It gets better ChrisB!)

Windows? XP may not recognize the USB floppy disk drive due to Windows? XP
limitation. To work around this OS limitation, refer to section 4.5.4 Using a USB
floppy disk drive."

Daniel you made me pmsl. But surprizingly wasn't the XP joke you tried to pull but rather thinking about the linucs back in those times...

Unless you can find a driver and get it inside the installation image somehow, that's pretty much what you have to do.

You can get USB floppies pretty cheaply. You can even format a USB memory stick so that it acts like a floppy.

For me, Thumbdrive are the best thing to come down the Pike in many moons!

With my 16 giger and a Mint disk I can restore myself from scratch in around three hours, with all setting as I like them and non standard install apps downloaded and installed. When one makes as many critical mistakes as I do....this is a God send!

Yeah, I use to have to slipstream 2000 pro (my last experience of MS windows.)

Only way I could get device manager to function as 2000 pro grew ever more decrepid. Slipstream actually extended 2000 life for me by a year or two...

But MS was shutting 2000 pro in every way it could. Then just as my back hit the wall Fedora became viable for even the likes of me!

Chris your always going on about games. MS shut down games in 2000 pro, MS went after the devs and got them NOT to support 2000 even though it remained perfectly capable. Keep sending them your money Chris or you lose your games... I did! I lost them all. Not by going to Linux as you seem to think, but by trying to Stay with my MS OS when MS didn't want me to. I was familiar with and really liked 2000 Pro

PC gaming was over for me before I went to Linux.

Why not upgrade? Because I'm to poor in money and because I'm to rich in friends who help me....":O}

And there is this, how much of a compromise in my principles should I make to play even the very best of games?

I help run a hardware site, there is a valid argument, that I need to use MS software to carry out mt duties. Many find themselves in this situation.

I may yet find myself in this situation.

I think there may be an interest in Linux overclocking, or at lest in Linux benchmarking and stability testing. This is where my interests lie.

If there is not, or if I cannot gather enough of what I need to make this happen, I may be forced to abandon my project and "Perhaps" find myself in need

of speaking a common OS language with my peers. I believe that in this life one must "give unto Cesar what is Cesar's and give unto God what is God."

(Here those who feel the need may substitute "God" for "life") We didn't make this world, but we are called to live in it as best we can...

Sorry if I digress these things have been much on my mind...":O}

Or you can twiddle with the firmware on the USB memory stick and make it appear as a CD-ROM drive...

Hey Dan, which games did you loose?
I'm currently testing my Linux for playing games and compatibility.
Of course there isn't 100% success with Linux, but I'm having fun trying out new & old games.
For example: I can still run Doom, Doom II, Doom 3, Heretic, Hexen and Heretic II.
With the help of Dosbox and Wine of course.
Ironically I'm playing Heretic II right now and it runs pretty good.
Most games that use the Quake Engine (ID Tech 2.0) and later seem to run in Linux. some even natively!
Like Return to Castle Wolfenstein, Quake, Quake II & Quake 4, Quake Wars

yup, if you got the CD's all you have to do is install the linux files and then copy the .pak files into the base directory.
with Quake Wars, the Linux installer asked for the DVD and copied the files all by its-self... pretty cool!

I'll have to do it again first. I tried copying the Doom3 folder from my Fedora 8 machine (expecting it to work) but I will install the Linux drivers the right way this time
