This evening I have been trying this out...
Duolingo | Learn English, Spanish and German for free

Learn a language, and translate the web!

That's a slick idea, and one that I might just take advantage of. One thing I'm unclear on though:

Does it teach you the spoken language as well, or just the written one? Being able to read and write a language are important skills to be sure, but being able to speak and hear it are also important (and useful).

It uses a mix of audio and text. A mix of multiple choice, or free form answers.

I have mic disabled, so I haven't tested out that feature.

But, it automatically reads text, asks you to write it, in the original language or English. You can have it read each word slowly, if you're having trouble.

The crowd-sourced translation is a side thing, you don't have to do it, you can just stick to the structured course. But, translating is a good exercise.

Seems to be working well for me.

Sorry, but more likely that's Chris...

What did you do to her Chris? Miss Mint has standards, you can't just treat like you do that old street OS you hang out with. She not some pay per view you pick up in a low rent charging station that serves coffee and bad do-nuts!

What did you do to her that she won't speak to you? I'll bet it's bad!!":O}

How do you know its linux? Your games won't work despite having 8 gb ram and an expensive grafic card.

"Ubuntu + google in meeting. Ubuntu playing the song: JUSTIN BIEBER BOYFRIEND, google playing P.I.M.P.

google saying: "all your linux are belong to us".
Ubuntu: *looks thrilled* "yes working with you are a pleasure...... can I be your boyfriend?".
google: u install chrome..
ubuntu: "ok sorry google yes yes we install chrome and make sure to bring you more traffic, we don't know why but working with you are very beneficial to us we imagine after hearing a slogan about good vs evil, we kinda gave up on linux and now we want to fight evil with you".
Google: Ima pimp, and watch us kill ubuntu one with our own service. Next up: chromebook and android will eat your main market as well.
Ubuntu: yes, fighting evil YES YES google Ohh google I love you so much - you do no evil.
Google: I have no love for you, stupid."
