Mint Search Engines...

Mint has worked out a revenue deal with several search engines. When ever someone using a Mint distro uses one of the "partnered" search Engines, Mint gets paid!

Naturally those funds in turn go into Mint development. So the Whole Linux community benefits and we get a chance to remember the world before Google...So far Yahoo is the largest to agree to help Linux development in this way...

Isn't Ubuntu backed by Google? One of the reasons why google is so big is because what they do, they do well. (well... I guess we could argue that)

Don't know Robbie. They may have a sponsorship. I went all over yesterday trying to re-find my source on this, it's somewhere on the Mint Site.

I don't know which if any of the search engines are "pure" in the results they report, but I believe Google wants to be paid for favorable placement in search results.

But we should wait for someone to enlighten us on this before we hack Google and bring them down! ":O}

Mint's new search engine will be called in memory of Mr. William Shakespeare

Spear-mint's input search box Might look like this:

"Where for art thou Romeo?"

if Google is one of those search engines it may help to install Chromium in Mint and use it as your default browser.
I did and it looks/acts just like the Windows version.... Thank You Google!

either way, its pretty cool using Google Chrome in Linux.
Runs natively and already has the flash player installed.

Can you select your search engine in Chrome? In Firefox you can, I was wondering how generous Google is prepared to be with other search engines...":O}

I'm not sure what "your search engine" means. Are you referring to the default engine?
I'm sure Chromium uses Google for the default.
I'll have to check and see if you can change it to Bing or Yahoo.

Got it.
Chrome lets you set a default search engine, so I imagine Chromium will too.

I've always liked Chrome! it has a few unique features that only work with Gmail.
Otherwise, its perfectly fine. I don't mind Firefox either. Both are really good.
But I want to help Mint and Linux anywhere possible.

I think you do that when you use the software you prefer, voting with you hard drive as it were. Let's Mint know which packages are getting heavy use and would be worth inproving...Just always allow any reporting MInt wants and that's taken care of ":O}

Maybe, either way I want to get the "word out" that Mint is fairly easy to use, is a nice alternative to Windoze and does play a huge number of games.
