Let me bring you Enlightenment From the Bhodi Darma

They say the Buddha striped away all illusion to allow enlightenment to Appear.

Bhodi Linux follows the path of "Enlightenment" its creator.

I downloaded and Booted Bhodi with prayer flags flying on its own disk.

Even if you're not looking for a new distro, even if you don't like a fairly spartan approach to Desktop Linux,,,, You should see Bhodi's install page...it is simplicity itself and very beautiful... Watching that page...you just know this install is going to be alright.":O}

How spartan? Well you won't find a folder for Music or downloads...or anything else, you have to create them if you want them.

As my install is brand new and I'm a slow adopter, sometimes early, sometimes late, but a slow adopter it's going to take a while, NOT to familiarize myself with Bhodi, but to go about the business of creating the enlightenment I feel I want.

This will take me a while...as I'll have to think about things... rather than just try to understand what's before me....

Once I get todays work in the bucket I'll re-boot to Bhodi and see if I can figure out how to get you guys some screen shots.

So Bhodi...if you need a hobby! To soon by far to say I can really use it, but I do like it a lot.

There's one HUGE black spot right on the moniter...No graphics acceleration!

No Nvidia yet, No ATI.

Makes me want to weep that a desktop destro can be released in this day without Graphics acceleration!!

But Bhodi is very new and working on its karma...Enlightenment promises that they are hard at work getting your cards to accelerate...

The home page of Enlightenment.

A brief update on my Progress towards the light....

Bodhi Does indeed install Nvidia drivers...A big Plus with me!

I've installed Wine 1.4, PlayOnLinux and Steam accessing my Steam Account I've Downloaded and played Half-life.

Then I did some "settings adjustments".

One of them was a rendering option for a bit of "experimental" OpenGL

So I'm spending the day re-creating every thing I did yesterday as "Experimental" in this case means a no going back black and white checked screen...wasn't that funny!

So Bodhdi wishes to test my Confucian Back up and restoration powers!

I shall engulf Bodhi in my restore and re download palm thrust combinations!

I like to think you'd be little crazy to if you had to repeat an entire day of progress over a funny little choice I was given without explanation.

I'll need another week with it to be able to say, "I can assist you in sitting up if you like".

Bodhi does some things pretty differently from what I'm accustom to. I've had to re-install 4 times, each time I screwed myself as I didn't understand how Bodhi intends things to work.

I have to confess, without realizing it, the First two installs I was just trying to see how much Like Mint it was capable of being.... It not very mint-ish...

But it really dose work pretty well. Wine, Wine tricks, PlayOnLinux, Steam and many steam games work as well in Bodhi as in Mint, should they are both based on Ubuntu and Ubuntu's mommy was Debain... so it's a fairly close family.

Enlightenment looks to me, as a group of devs like I Imagine Mint looked xx number or years ago. Innovative, smart and willing to try different things, but tightly focus on giving me a great desktop experience.

In case you have come across this yet...

What Mint and Bodhi do is take the Unbuntu OS, tweak it to suit their vision and select packages from various Ubuntu and Debain repositories.

Then they hook up with the Themes guys (who are doing more all the time as far as desktop appearance and design, which now includes toolbars, icon, Wallpapers

Then they whip the mix. They try to deliver as efficient a desktop as they can, they do Beta testing and if they are a tight and talented group of individuals, they get ever so much better as Mint goes on..":O}

Also installedc FAH ":O}

I think, I hope Bodhi is going to be around along time.

I'll post some Pics after I re-boot, needed Mint, where I know where EVERYTHING I need is as Asus played a trick on me!

See My post (when it get there in Betty Rants

Just two or three of my 80 some odd Themes, very diverse! For some reason Bodhi wouldn't recognize the V7 FAH client and install it, on-line or on my desktop...So I went with the last V6 Client from terminal.
