Oh! I wanted to say that it's not a throttle! It's adaptive like my 2600K. It responds to need and Increases power as needed...I like this! This is cool when I'm lazy and hot when I'm crazy in games! ":O}

And what Modern hardware does Linux have lots of problems with?

So having a Penguin to display rather than a calculator slows hardware up some how? You of course have cross platform stats that support this statement?

That my card runs slower in Linux than other OS's? I'm not talking about running Windows games under emulation, as emulation is an inherit slow down.

I ran Quake 1-4 in Linux and it beat crap out of windows, as Quake was a native Linux game. My card preforms to it's hardware limits in Mint and I have bench marks that confirm that, what have you got besides a negative opinion of anything not MS?

Chris Linux is not MS and most of us NEVER want it to be. That it's not MS and still makes us happy seems to just piss you off.

We are still going to be happy. You saying what we have isn't good enough, doesn't make it so. We are happy. If you can't be happy for us, why not just leave Linux alone?

We have tons of things are can agree upon and laugh. Why not stay with that which we can agree upon?

my Gigabyte motherboard for one... your new GeForce 670 video card for two... I'm sure there are more examples.
But, we got through it didn't we?
I know Windows can have the same problem with new hardware and drivers/software.

Now wait a minute! I was never for a single moment without a fully functional Card. It always played half life, Riddick and Modern warfare and only Modern warfare has any problems.

I think we can agree that my cards problems were cross platform and originated with Nvidia.

With four lines of code from Aedan my problems were over. Thats Linux solving problems, not making them. My Brand new printer, I plugged it in , it worked.

My monitor, keyboard, mouse, USB 3.0 Back up Drive, Gen III Sata Drives. Do I have to go on?

Linux does not have a problem with ANY of my BRAND NEW MODERN hardware.

Games. Games "Can be" a real bitch in Linux as you and I know Boo. But Hardware being a problem, modern hardware a problem...when am I going to see these problems for myself?

All the stuff I bought to build an entirely new computer, I didn't send back one thing because it wouldn't work in Linux. I do try to only buy Linux approved Hardware, where the manufacture says it will work. But often even when Linux isn't mentioned, the hardware will work just fine.

So tell me what hardware problems does Linux present to the average user?

(By average, I mean me.":O}

Your Gigabyte board...as it's just one board, perhaps that was more Gigabyte than Linux?

You have had more positive experience with new hardware than I have.
Linux has always been great with older hardware, but I mentioned your video card because Mint 13 didn't have the updated drivers yet and the Nvidia ones didn't work either. At least they didn't work like they were supposed to.
You weren't without working hardware but you had to do a LOT of trial-n-error to figure out what the problem was for the video card.
That is typical of Linux because I still don't fully understand everything yet.
Its hard to know who was at fault... could be Nvidia, could be Linux kernel, could be Mint 13... I don't know.
But I hope that video card works out-of-the-box with current drivers on Winblows.
My Gigabyte issues turned out to be simple, but took many hours in trial-n-error to figure it out. Hence the tutorial.
Sadly I still had booting to Mint 13 USB problems with another compute that has a Gigabyte motherboard and a New Toshiba laptop at work.
Not sure whats going on there... Fedora 16 booted up just fine (had to add nomoeset of course).

Anyways, I'm glad you are the AOAForums Linux ginnea pig because it sounds like Mint 13 has been working out GREAT!

Honestly, I was perfectly fine with Fedora too! It ran flawlessly and even some games like Drakensang ran fine.
The reason I decided on Mint is because of the standard users coming from Winblow environment. Its just easier.

BOO! Everyone in windows who had this card was scrambling for answers to! This was Nivdia, not Mint. I was trying to find out what was going on. The card was always fine. The Nvidia reporting was an issue.

Windose users report overheating problems I've never seen, runs very cool for me. But I'm not going to say thats because they are using windoze!!

I'm going to say it's probably because I got lucky. When everything I buy works just fine, how can I say that Linux has trouble with new hardware? At that point I have to insist that Linux, like Windoz has trouble occasionally with a particular piece of hardware... To go from that to Linux has trouble with all modern hardware is just silly.It just doesn't!

You are right! I forgot about that!
There were many comments on newegg.com about people having driver and heat issues.. go figure.
I totally agree, that is why I didn't give up on Mint 13. I just had to keep trying different things until my motherboard liked it.
Linux rocks! At this point I'm never turning back!
Like I wrote elsewhere... I will always have at least one Windows box for "those games" that refuse to run on Linux, but I'm aiming for Linux all around

Do you remember the first time you tried Linux?

I was excited and kinda worried all at the same time.
I couldn't wait to try something different than Winblows, but I wasn't sure how to do anything.

I can clearly remember when I did not understand the difference between my new computer and the internet, such as it was at the time. I took me days if not weeks to learn what was what! ":O}

Cool! Let us know what Steam Support has to say.... I'm curious if they are going to be helpful at all... since we aren't using native Linux they may not support it. I have a feeling they will just send you some Wine links and give you the run-around.

The only time I submitted a ticket with Steam was when I almost gave up on it. I was having MAJOR problems running Half-Life 2 & Counter-Strike:Source in offline mode during LAN parties. They wouldn't connect to my Linux server and wouldn't connect to each other.... then I started getting random errors about no login information on the computer... bla bla bla
Steam Support actually helped a bit, but after a few Steam updates somehow it fixed itsself. I still can't connect to my server with Steam offline but I CAN connect to the workstations.
So they were kinda helpful

You know they use to. They use to offer at least three choices in drivers and tell which was which. But we do have access to the info we need from Nvidia...

Here's the thing. I bought this game from Steam. Therefore I have a reasonable expectation that it will launch....As I use Linux whatever happens after it launches is on me and my Destro.

But this SecuRom is not even letting the game try to launch, that's on Steam as they sold me this game.

If I have to do anything beyond contacting Steam to get this fixed, I will be very disappointed... That said, I think your right Boo, I think they will give me a url and say you guys figure this out.... We will see...sigh...

The funny thing is that looking back...the clearest memory I have is fear. I've always been afraid of my software and hardware. I think there are at lest two reasons.
1. I'm poor and hardware and software was very expensive for me.
but the second condition I think was most responsible

2. I have never really known what I am doing.
There is always a vast body of knowledge that I know is there, but just can not reach.

I've always needed far more courage than I should to play with hardware!

For me, this is really hard stuff!!":O}
