Crysis 2 running on Mint 13

I wish this could be an install guide... but alas it is but an update (for those who may have an interest) On my progress to date in getting Crisis 2 to run on a Mint 13 platform though the good graces of wine and PlayOnLinux.

When I began I couldn't keep the game alive past the intro cut scenes. Once I was able to do this, The picture was a wreak of triangles taking out various sides of the picture flashing screen, artifacts... it really didn't look like it would run ...ever...then it would crash!

Yesterday, just before I wiped it out in order to start over, I was running in ULTRA in all settings, picture perfect. Game play perfect. So why wipe out the drive?

Because I have a dead spot I can't get past. It takes around 10 minutes now for me to complete the level, I REALLY have this level scoped due to repetition!

The action at times is furious and the game takes it without blinking, I kill or get past them all!

Then there's a cut scene where I acquire new Nano powers, cut scene ends and then I proceed down an almost empty corridor to a crumbly flight of stairs,,,and things suddenly go completely flaky! I have to baby and wait, baby and wait to get through this. If I'm real penitent and don't press at all, I can. But the code is totally struggling to get things done.

Then there another cut scene and just when it loads the next level, it crashes. I've done this 10 times at lest. I can see no reason this would be hard. The place it goes to pieces is tranquil, there's ZERO action.

So in the desperate hope that the code I downloaded is a bit doggy at this point in the game, I re-downloaded the game last night and will work with it today. I've also gone through a lot of wine versions on this particular V-drive, they don't always UN-install as cleanly as we would like. This gets rind of any doubts I may have about the "purity" of my wine.

so wish me luck. I'll let you know how things go!

ANY suggestions will be seriously entertained, please believe me!! LOL

It did not really surprise me when I tied to emulate Windows 8 in Crysis 2 that it eat all my saved games... So It likes me as little as I like it.":O}

If it's Crysis 2 Maximum Edition then it includes the DirectX 11 upgrades to push ultra quality somewhat higher than the original game. As far as I know, Wine's DirectX 11 implementation is fairly incomplete, so you're probably better off using the DirectX 9 path in it.

BTW, did you know that Wine has been around for the last 12 years?

It's either DX9 or DX11, so you'd be better off trying the DX9 path, and not trying DX10 or DX11 until Wine sorts out it's support.
