Mint 14 released... already?

Guess what Dan?
After all of our testing in the last 6 months we have more to do...
Mint 14 was just released
We'll see if it breaks our setup, games and boot problems or maybe 14 will fix them?

Honestly I don't know. I've never upgraded from one version to a newer version.
This will be my first time.
This weekend, I'll give it a try!

Mint 14 64 bit is...well interesting.

No more Additional drivers. My heart almost stopped! But... they are handling Nvidia much more directly...all of nvidia by the looks of it. An entire page of nvidia in Software manger.

But she do have her problems...

For one Mint 14 can't install crossover, and there's a real good reason it can't. It can't install wine....

So not the gamers Paradise I envisioned, but then I'm always envisioning stuff then bumping into reality on the way to fulfillment.":O}

Don't know nuttin about Mint 14 32 bit, things may be better there. But I wouldn't clear a drive full of games to do this install quite yet.

Basic GUI is unchanged, but small improvements are visible everywhere. I look forward to this one gaining a bit of stability...she's looking good if almost looking the same.":O}

A few snap shots I took on my way to Crysis 2, broke down at the crossover and found wine spilled before it could be bottled.

Good little review!
I will spend some time doing an update this Weekend and then see if Wine 7 PlayOnLinux still work for me.

Did you upgrade or just install from scratch with the DVD?

of course you did.
I will let you know of my experiences upgrading without doing it from scratch.
I want to try it at least once... I'm hoping it will be better than a Winblows upgrade.

It should be as simple as this:
Code:
sudo cp /etc/apt/sources.list /etc/apt/sources.list.bak
sudo sed -i ?s/lisa/maya/g? /etc/apt/sources.list
sudo sed -i ?s/oneiric/precise/g? /etc/apt/sources.list
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get -y dist-upgrade
sudo apt-get autoremove
sudo apt-get autoclean
From a forum post upgrading 12 to 13

OK, you first! I have eight games that depend upon me for a stable working environment! They are far from pleased with me as it is! ":O}

Daniel, I think your problem may be because there's no 32bit environment installed by Mint.

You *might* be able to get away with:
  • sudo dpkg --add-architecture i386
  • apt update
  • sudo apt-get install wine1.5

If it is as I suspect, then Mint is diverging from Ubuntu further, and following Debian more closely. The upshot of that will probably be that you may need to move to using Debian packages rather than Ubuntu packages for things outside the Mint repository.

Good catch Aidan, and that's probably the case. A default Fedora 64-bit install doesn't include any 32-bit libs either, and you have to install a LOT of 32-bit stuff to get WINE working correctly.

I'll re-boot to M-14 64 and see what's what. As always, many thanks Aedan! ":O}

This is taking a minute and I didn't want to keep anyone in suspense! Terminal has been working it's little butt off!! Still only 41% done, but it's definitly installing wine without any complaints.

Post again once I have a fix on how things are working.":O}

Re-booted tried again, same window appears. I try clicking OK , nothing. In fact the only thing I've found I can do it close it, I get the warning seen in above pic.

Says things are still happing ...how long should I wait for them to "Happen.?
