GNOME: The traditional Linux desktop is coming back

Quote:
It would be difficult to imagine a more vivid testament to many Linux users' dislike of the new-style GNOME 3 desktop than the many alternative options that have sprung up in response.

Well............not exactly.

What they've finally decided to do is meet us in the middle. Someone in the Gnome community woke up and actually started listening instead of just giving the knee-jerk reaction of 'You just don't like it because it's different. Give it a chance'.

What they are going to do is start packaging the most popular extensions which give you most of the user experience of Gnome 2, rather than actually create a new desktop. It's still not determined if this will be as simple as flipping a switch in the gnome-tweak utiltiy or if you'll have to actually install a separate package, but the upshot is that at worst, instead of installing 15 or 20 extensions you'll only install one package that contains all of those extensions in one bundle.

God has heard my prayers!!

( Don't stop praying folks this stuff works!! ":O}

Kidding aside, just read the reader responses...It may take a while, but we were heard. And we should be grateful that those who do all this work, still listen to us.
What a gift to give.
