Clone Zillia lets me down!

Two new things I had not tested before:

Mint 15 and My SSD drive.

Clone Zillia completes a back up. but warns (I think for the first time) That Grub does not support all Ext 4 drives and Grub may need something done,,, (Sorry I do it again and get more precise wording )

After it completes and says it's check the drive and it will restore, if fails and the restored drive cannot boot.... Grub failure.

Help?

I have no idea what changed (if you do please say! )

But I updated my CloneZilla and that took care of the problem...but not before I lost several back ups I was playing with.

I suppose the later version added support for the specific drive you have. If that was the first time you used CZ on that drive,as you said, you would not have known it would be a problem. How old was your version of CZ?

I get the new version probably twice a year, burn it and throw the old one away. Using that routine, CZ has never let me down yet (in the 4 years I'm using it).

It did accomplish the back up and restore... it just couldn't launch grub. when you hit "Tab" it gave you a list of commands, I tried most but I guess I couldn't find the right combo.

I was using the one I downloaded when you first recommend it so me...so at lest a year?

I'm not sure where those version numbers come from. The current version is 2.1.1-25. Did you get it from their website, or another source?

I use Mint/Ubuntu so I "thought" I should go with Alternative. After reading what they say... What non-free "software"(?) are they talking about?

You want the stable release, not the alternative.

The stable is based on Debian, and the alternative is based on Ubuntu. It has nothing to do with what distro you are running.

.rar is the compressed file format. I would think that what you want is the .iso, and then burn it to a CD.

Yeah that what I did with the Alternative, burn the ISO. I'll look at the Debian, but the Alternative is listed as stable as well.

Well, I guess it really doesn't matter, as long as it worked for you this time. I suggest the other version because that is the one I use, and I think Brian does. too.

Been playing with the new Mint Debain...huge step forward for them...may even replace Mint Ubuntu for me...a little to soon to tell.":O}
