Exclamation I love Windows!

I love windows so much that when it went beserk and wouldn't start anymore saying something is $£"£"%£"% I decided to install Linux. I am using a Linux Mint burned dvd and since I started the OS up from it I am installing while browsing the web, ain't that something? I made about two partitions a 3GB / and a 5GB /root. God knows what that means! But I know now that without a / partition you can't install linux! So help me God

Well it didn't work and I came across my release preview of windows 8 which for some odd reason refused to install back then and installed now! What about that?

PS Linux also crashed mid install first time becoming unresponsive. It's just not my Linux day afterall

What's this about the 10th time you've rushed though a Linux install and given up without really trying?

I don't know squat about laptops, but I can guarantee that if you give us a chance to help you we can get you up and running in Mint 15.... and that you will love it...promise.":O}

I've read about this... Windows 8 bootloader may be preventing Grub from installing.
Grub is normally the "bootloader" for Linux

Do some research with me and see if there is a way to remove Windows 8 bootloader.

Looks like EasyBCD is the way to go!
EasyBCD

Apparently you install Windows 8 first, then Linux, after that you configure the Windows 8 bootloader to see Linux.

Daniel, I would bet serious money that he went in, changed some random stuff, and then acted surprised when it wouldn't load correctly.

I mean, seriously, you can't end up WITHOUT a / partition unless you are randomly clicking on stuff.

Try doing the same thing with a windows install and you'll get equally bizarre results.

Chrisbard...try this...download a 32 bit copy of Mint 15 and burn the ISO. Then check your media... it almost always good, but check it when you get the chance right before you install. Check your ram as well.

Once that's done just have it take your entire hard drive. It will install with all default settings... it's truly a no brainier.

Then if you think you can't do something in Mint 15, don't give up ask ...ASK HERE where your friends are, we can help you.

This will not give you DirectX 10 or 11 games...yet.... one day it will, but not yet.

If that's what you want you will still need Windows or a Game console.

Enjoy.

P.S. I have to agree with Gizmo... you can not approach this in a careless or reckless manner and expect a good result. Be patient...when your in doubt ask questions...

Oh, it sounded like Chrisbard wanted a dual boot Win 8 & Linux...
This is a laptop correct?
What is your end goal?
Just having a running computer with Linux? or do you want to run windows on it too?
