Now I guess we should set up the SMP to run along side that GPU Code: mkdir -p ~/folding/cpu && cd ~/folding/cpu && wget http://www.stanford.edu/group/pandegroup/folding/release/FAH6.24beta-Linux.tgz && tar xzf FAH* Code: ./fah6 -configonly Code: ./fah6 -smp -verbosity 9

I'll work on the next steps in a couple of days. I just want to relax and enjoy what you have helped me to achieve. I'll try to install Fahmon and how to start both clients when I need to shut down-for whatever reason. I'll need your help on the latter-maybe both but now, well let it run! Kudos! EDIT: 3 rigs folding agian-I'm comming Sam! ![]()

Happy folding.. I'll get this all wrapped up in a nice little package and submit it to TR just as soon as I get something back from the guy I borrowed some of the code from. The Gentoo and Arch guides are finished as well. The only one I haven't done is Fedora, but I may do that one only if the demand is there.. (Not a big fan of fedora)

It's a good thing he had that guide up, for some reason I couldn't get the set up to work on mint that I use on the 5 other distro's in my house. Might be a buntu thing. As far as the other guy, some people are a little too proud of what they type, especially when there is really only one way to type a command to achieve a desired result, but that is why I save my frequent flier miles.. Just in case I run into a problem that can't be handled on the net.. It actually took more time to install it on Mint than it did to install it on my Linux From Scratch machine. (Which BTW, is almost ready for some Alpha testers. Just as soon as I decide on a package manager and set up a repo.)

After giving it some thought, I am going to spend a little more time on getting my method to work. There is really only one obstacle and that is the permission failure in the /home/user/ directory. I'll figure it out and then we will have our own guide that will work on any linux distro, that anybody can use, copy and steal without having to worry about someone saying that is mine..

That realy sounds great-something anyone can use, with any distro-who would have thunk it? Great work!

I think I have everything sorted out, I am going to do a fresh install of Mint on my main rig and run through everything one more time just to make sure. The Mint install on my other rig got a little trashed along the way trying different things and it probably has a few security holes now so I'll just wipe that drive and start over..

It's all done and working, all I need to do now is upload the cudart.dll.so to AOA files so we can wget it and we're good to go.

That won't work so well.....AOAFiles sets a download cookie and thus doesn't work well with WGET. |
| |||
Not a big deal, I think I can host it in my rpath repo, if not I'll drop it on a file site.

(The finished version of the linux GPU2 folding guide. I've tested it on a couple of rigs and can verify it does work. TR, you can move it edit it as you see fit) Ubuntu/Mint linux 64 bit instructions. 32 bit set up coming soon. Can be used for gentoo, arch and most other distros with some modifications. Under Gentoo you only need to install wine and start from that point in the guide as the rest is already in place. You will need to mask any nvidia-drivers newer than 180.60 to make it happen though. Under Arch you will need to install base-devel and wine. Make sure you have an updated system with the 180 series nvidia drivers. Can be installed through the package manager. Do not install drivers newer than the 180 series if you plan to run GPU2. They do not work and will only give an UNSTABLE_MACHINE error Open up a terminal Code: sudo apt-get install wine build-essential linux-headers-`uname -r` Code: mkdir -p ~/folding/gpu Code: cd ~/folding/gpu ~/ stands for /home/username Extract the cudart.dll.so (notice the *, * is used as a wildcard so I am able to execute a command on stuff with long filenames without having to type it all out, you will see a better example a couple of posts down. Code: unzip cudart* Code: wget http://developer.download.nvidia.com/compute/cuda/2_0/linux/toolkit/NVIDIA_CUDA_Toolkit_2.0_ubuntu7.10_x86.run Code: sudo sh NVIDIA_CUDA_Toolkit_2.0_ubuntu7.10_x86.run Code: wine notepad Copy the cudart.dll to the newly created wine directory Code: cp -a cudart.dll.so ~/.wine/drive_c/windows/system32/nvcuda.dll Code: sudo cp -a /usr/local/cuda/lib/* /usr/lib32 Code: wget http://www.stanford.edu/group/pandegroup/folding/release/Folding@home-Win32-GPU_XP-623.zip Code: unzip Fold* Code: nice wine Folding@home-Win32-GPU.exe -verbosity 9 -forcegpu nvidia_g80 Special thanks goes out to the many people on foldingforum.org that put in a lot of work to make this possible.

OK Cliff, that looks good. I plan to put it up on the front page as soon as Gizmo finishes up some work on the server and I get access to the admin page. I think I should close this thread and move the code to be the first page of a new sticky in the GPU topic. Are there any objections from anyone to doing that? Most of the existing thread was troubleshooting the code anyhow, and as long as it is finished now, it deserves its own sticky. I can help support it with you, I've taken a look at it and understand what you have done. My main linux rig is on the 190.36 drivers though. They solved an issue I was having with compiz and I'm reluctant to regress, so I'll make a second setup with Xubuntu/180.xx drivers to help support the install procedure. I should have time next week.

I can probably change some code to make certain files 'wgetable'. |
| |||
If it's not too much trouble that would be cool. After doing a little checking, anything that is available and managed by me is really not a viable solution. I checked out my rpath repo and there is quite a bit of broken code in it that I would rather not open up to the public. (At least not until I learn enough to make it right)

Ok, it's done. Upload the file and then PM me, so that I can set the proper permissions on it. Understand, though, that AOA derives the money that keeps the lights on from advertsing. By making this file capable of being retrieved in this way, it is bypassing our advertsing, and thus our revenue stream. Only in extraordinary circumstances are we willing to do this. That being said, all of you guys should be proud of the work you've done on this, and of what you've accomplished. I realize that you are building on the work of others, and that's fine as long as credit is given where credit is due: that's how the world moves forward. Never-the-less, you have all done a significant amount of hard work yourselves, and that shouldn't be overlooked either. |
