64-bit LINUX setup guide for GPU2 client under WINE

directory made! problem installing nvidia driver. error message says to quit 'x server'. so how do I do that???

the driver is the only thing holding me back!

I get an error, a serious problem client/core communication error. so I can start the client but it won't run. help?!

I'm away and essentially afk but if you post the log I'll take a look when I have time. Maybe I can give you an idea, but I won't be able to recreate the issue until I'm home in a week or two...

EDIT2: I just realized that this is the GPU client, you are doing this in WINE. If that's true, you need more help than I can give you. Sorry but I've no experience at all. Maybe at the forum? Cliff is our man, but he's not been 'round recently. You could try a PM to him.

thanks TR. the issue is around installing the nVidia 180.60 drivers while running Xserver. I will look in the forums for more info. just can't find what I think I need.

You can't install the driver when x server is running. You have to do it from a command line; normally in ubuntu you would use ctrl-alt-F1 to get to the CL, then

sudo /etc/init.d/gdm stop

to stop x [if you are running gnome, which is the default for ubuntu.] Then you can install the driver.

had to do a reinstall of windows on that box for my sanity. ok, points too. got to get busy, more Folding hardware coming soon.
